Going solo next week!

Recently split up with my horrible ex and just decided to book a last minute trip to Italy next week (Venice). I'm so excited to go away and hoping this will give me a confidence boost after being controlled and miserable for years.

Any positive solo travel tips or experiences please share 😊

I have to travel solo to Europe for work sometimes and I love it! You will have the best time! I take my camera, I people watch in restaurants and walk and walk, mooch in shops, stop for a beer in a cafe!

I would recommend seeing Murano and Burano. I love Venice, I think it is magical.

Having lunch solo is much nicer (for me) than the formality etc. of dinner. Maybe just me but i find it easier and i feel less conspicuous. After a wander around in the evening i have a "room picnic".

use A decent cross body bag with a zipped pocket nearest the body for pickpocket deterrent. Add a fold up nylon backpack inside for purchases on the way.

Keep your accommodation details in phone AND on a scrap of paper in a pocket together with 20 euro.

Do NOT stop for coffee on the waterfront near st Marks Sq, unless youre ok for a remortgage.

Take the water bus Round the canals. Its very cheap, you might have to stand. Look at the routes and pick the best for you. There is a hub outside the train station.

Wander and enjoy, especially in the evening when the day trippers/cruise dudes have left.
