Holiday itinerary planning apps?

We have a multicentre trip planned this summer. I have a rapidly expanding Note on my phone with tips, ideas and links and I’ve fired off numerous links to DH via WhatsApp. It’s a mess. I want somewhere I can start loosely planning our days at each centre to get the most out of our trip. Functions I want:

  • Ability to pin attractions on a map with brief comments incl. opening days/times;
  • Day by day breakdown;
  • Somewhere to dump useful links like local transport timetables, maps etc;
  • Easy to shuffle things around between days if eg the weather’s rubbish to replan indoor/outdoor stuff
  • Shareable with my family group so we can crowdsource the planning;
  • (Wishlist) ability to thumbs up/down or star options so we can whittle options down.

There seem to be a few apps around. Can anyone recommend one? Or would I be better off with a generic planner like Trello?

I just use an Excel spreadsheet.

Columns for where we are staying each day, nearby restaurants, what we are doing with opening hours - not always that important but helps for places where museums are shut on Mondays.

DH did it this time and added driving time per day which helped us be realistic.

Local transport is usually just downloading the local app on arrival.

We use the notes app. A general one with all major information, flights, hotels, general itinerary.
Then one per location, links for restaurants, google map links, sightseeing with opening times,

DH currently works on it, adding a timeline for tomorrow. We share the app so we both can look and amend.

Thanks both. I’m keen to have something with a map interface so we can group activities together to cut down walking and transport each day, so a spreadsheet wouldn’t help with that.

That looks good @ActualAl I’m off to have a look.

I did this too for our California road trip, worked great

I think we just work out what's near where as we go along after learning this the hard way.

App looks great but I like the space of a normal screen.

I use TripIt. Im not sure it will do everything you want, but it does automatically pull booking emails out of my inbox and add them to the trip - which I love as I dont have to retype everything. And it will then synch with my google calendar and add everything as its own calendar (so I can turn it on and off). And I can share it with all the other holiday people so they can just view or view and edit.

I also like TripIt

I've used Wanderlog: travel itinerary, vacation & road trip planner

in the past for holidays. Its free and I think it would do all that you're looking for?

This looks really good!

I use a combination of Planapple (to save ideas/links, but you can also do maps and itineraries - I like that it is simple) and Excel

boatyardblues · 07/06/2024 21:52

DH and I have tried a couple of apps out.

Pogo was useless unless you want to do your own planning and not share. All of my attempts to share it and family attempts to join me fell over. It was full of bugs and glitches. Deleted it.

Wanderlog is proving to be much better, so we are going to run with it.

Hey!

I am actually creating a platform which will have all of these features and more. i am actually looking for beta testers to give feedback on our first version before we go live - would you be interested in giving it a go?
