October Barcelona or Rome kids 7&9

Hi,

Looking for recommendations for a European city in October half term with kids 7 and 9.

Think we’ve narrowed it down to Rome or Barcelona. Can anyone give some real
life guidance with kids of a similar age?

We are not fussed about it being hot. Kids are happy to go to educational places, although I’m concerned Rome might be a bit boring for them as it may become a bit samey?! Although 9yo is learning about Romans and 7yo will be soon.

We’ve been to Amsterdam and kids loved it - Anne Franks house, science museum and pancakes!

Any thoughts?

I found that there was more to do in Rome with DC than Barcelona and DC absolutely loved the atmosphere, the pizzas and gelato etc. Probably the only European city we would return to with DC.

We did Rome a couple of times with kids similar age in October half term. They loved it.

@Greenmayleaves oh that’s interesting. Did your children find the Rome sights interesting?

My dc preferred Barcelona. They especially enjoyed the rides at Mount Tibidabo, Cosmo Caixa, the aquarium, Parc Guell and the musical fountain show.

They loved them. We did the usual sites and a couple of museum visits. The only one that wasn't enjoyed as much was the Vatican due to the long queue to get in but that was partly our fault for not being organised.

We did Barcelona with 9 & 11 yo in October half term many moons ago and it was wonderful. Weather was fab -70 degrees, and plenty to see and do.

Only downside was they don’t do trick or treat! We had a valiant effort with help from a local friend and her son but kept it to hotels and restaurants who mainly gave the DC free mints 😂
