Finland in May

Has anyone been to Finland in spring time and got suggestions on what to do on holiday?

DH and I are planning to go next year as I'm going to a work event in Helsinki and want to make a holiday out of it. Thought about also going to the Baltic States.

We usually go to Greece/Italy/Spain and like museums, art galleries, castles. Not interested in hiking, cycling, watersports. DH also has a vision impairment so is not going to enjoy spotting wildlife far away.

Most of what I am finding is hiking and wildlife so grateful for any ideas!

Wrong year but I'm quite envious and am bumping the thread for you.

Helsinki is a great city and also lovely wider area - some good museums (Kiasma, Seurasaari Island and Open-Air Museum, Ateneum, Design Museum plus more), would recommend a trip to Suomenlinna, also Helsinki cathedral, the central market.

It can be easily combined with Tallinn via the ferry. Tallinn has a gorgeous old town, nice churches, Toompea castle, Kumu art museum.

Elsewhere in Finland you could look at Porvoo (Old Porvoo, cathedral, galleries, J. L. Runeberg’s Home), Turku (castle, cathedral, market, Naantali), and Rauma (Old Rauma, museums, Sammallahdenmäki burial site).

Thank-you so much, the Open Air Museum looks fabulous

Will have a look at the other recommendations as well. Definitely thinking of combining with Estonia.

It is fab - worth checking when in May it opens though as it’s only open in summer which usually means second or third week of May in Finland

Based on a June trip to St Petersburg (similar latitude and terrain) I would recommend lots of mosquito repellent and long sleeves/light trousers! It will also be light for the majority of the day which is really lovely.

Top tip @DevilgateDriver !

Go to the oodi library ( we'll it's a lot more than a library). It's like a ship and you climb up the wooden floor to a point which is like the bows of a ship looking over Helsinki

Also there is a modern round church built into a rock which is very unusual. The Sibellius monument is another thing
