Germany with 2 toddlers?

Does anyone have experience of visiting Germany with 2 young children?

We're possibly going for a few days, near Dussledorf, in December. DCs will be 2.5yr and 13mths.

Is Germany generally child friendly? Is it very cold in December there?

Yes I lived there and I think it is childfriendly. It will be cold. There have been some posts from mumsnetters.

Public transport is vvv good in Germany, and the Germans generally seem more child-friendly than us. Dec is a good time to visit, as most big cities have very good Christmas markets.

Gute Fahrt!

A great time to visit with Children - as SubRosa says the Christmas Markets are great and there may even be Snow. Snow there is not the debilitating thing it is here. They all have Snow Tyres and the Transport system manages very well!

Check the weather before you go and Kit them out in Snow suits etc - they will Love it. I lived there as a Child and really miss the "True" Winter.

I live in Germany, although I don't know Dusseldorf at all. I would say it's pretty child friendly here, certainly there are much better facilities for chldren such as playgrounds or swimming pools. You'll probably also be pleasantly surprised at how affordable it is to do any sort of family outing here.

Public transport is excellent.

It can be very cold in December (we've had no snow this year though) and even in a mild winter you will get disapproving looks if your dc are not well wrapped up - scarfs, hats, gloves, fur-lined boots etc.

One other thing I have just remembered is how well they acept Children in Restaurants etc in the evening. As long as they are not being horrid and running everywhere Children are out for the evening with their Parents much more than here.

Düsseldorf is in quite a mild part of Germany, though it can be cold by UK standards.

I've found a great zoo and park area we're going to visit, and i'll have fun getting the kids winter clothes
