Currently trying to decide if we should go to Dubrovnik area or Istria. I heard Dubrovnik is very hot and full of cruise ships in the summer . Is cavtat not so busy though?

We went to Rovinj (Istria) last summer and I loved it. Last week in August, two days were 32 degrees so a bit too hot for one of the teens, but then it settled to maybe 25 degrees? Can't afford it this year but looking to maybe go next August...

Both are lovely and both hot in summer. Porec, on the Istrian Riviera is lovely . Lovely town to walk around which isn’t too big. Dubrovnik is a different type of experience. The old town is very busy on cruises ship days. We got round this by either going in on the one day there wasn’t any cruise ships or going in very early or in the evening. The walls get very busy so we did these as soon as they opened. It very much depends on the type of holiday you are after. I loved Dubrovnik but probably wouldn’t go again whereas I’d go back to Porec tomorrow and have already been back several times. Feel free to DM with any questions.

I adored Croatia on a road trip from Zagreb to Cavtat a few years ago. We used to take a water taxi into Dubrovnik from Cavtat after researching which were the quietest day re cruise ships. Both are busy and Cavtat, though beautiful, does suffer from aircraft noise. We found both of these places quite expensive compared to the rest of Croatia.
