Anyone been to Split?

Would love any recommendations of places to visit there or places to eat.

We have two teenagers with us.

I thought the waterfalls looked great but just read that you can't swim there! We like outdoorsy stuff and also have a few days in Bol on Brac

Me! Enjoyed it but not as much as Pula.
Usual caveats about stony beaches.
It's a cruise destination so can be very busy in the town when one is in.

Froggyland. Bonkers and brilliant
Guided walking tour round Split for the Diocletian stuff
We went to Krka falls and it was nice enough but been to better to be honest. There was swimming in the river downstream. It was a decent day out.
Klis Fortress was pretty good, and easy to get to on the bus.
The peach and rose ice cream at Emiliana is worth the wait. The queue is usually long but moves quickly

I felt Split had a bit of 'every 18 year old who has just finished school is here' vibe which I didn't love. The palace area is lovely to walk around though as is the sea front. The views from the bell tower are stunning.
Plitvice lakes are absolutely beautiful, I preferred it to Krka although that was very nice too. Great hiking and little boat trips at both. A few miles on from Plitvice you can swim in the river if you want, might need your own transport though.
We loved the little town of Bol, really lovely little place to hang out and eat out. Lovely stroll down to Zlatni Rat. We also hiked up Vidova Gora, bit of a slog but good views from the top.

I've been to Split, it is fantastic!! We did the waterfalls way back when you could swim in them.
There is a lot to see in the old town. We did a guided tour which was really cool. There's lots of Game of Thrones filming locations there too and a gorgeous church that you can climb up!

We also did a kayaking tour, you might like that sort of thing.

Might I suggest you island hop? We hopped from Dubrovnik to Split via Hvar, Bol, Brac, and that took us 2 weeks.

We loved Split and it wasn’t as expensive as other parts of Croatia (looking at you Dubrovnik…). We had a fabulous pizza at Bokamurra Pizzaraunt and really nice food at To Je Tako. Froggyland is fun and just wandering around the old town is pretty cool. Lots of cats.

We were only in split for a a couple of days though as we were working our way up to Zadar from Cavtat. There was a really nice beach at Kasjuni about five minutes from Split by car.

There were cheap Ubers in split which I really appreciated given the often very, very extortionate taxi charges elsewhere (looking at you Korcula).

I would have quite liked to have done a bus trip to Mostar if I’d been there longer.

Try zip lining at the Omis Gorge - just south of Split down the coast, my teens loved it. We also rented a boat and sailed up the Gorge. The day sailing trips from Split are also fun - we sailed over to Hvar Island on a catamaran and swam in the sea. All great fun.

Our trip to Split was mixed to be honest. My partner experienced racism on two separate occasions. Our young daughter and I were called British c*nts. I was also ripped off twice in shops. We’d been to Makarska and Split a few years earlier and had a great time so it was a shock to find it so unwelcoming on our next visit.

Brac was wonderful though - beautiful place and friendly. Spent most of our time in Bol and as a PP has said, the beach is really something

ohthejoys21 · 15/05/2024 17:10

How long are you there for? We were there last summer and a couple of days was more than enough.

Three days in Split and five in Bol

Thank you. Looks like two votes for froggy land! Great tips thanks

Only there 9 days so we will do boat trips or kayak trips I think

We are going to split in a couple of weeks and would like to visit Kliss, if you go by bus do you also have to walk far uphill dun1urkin? My knees are shit so might have to give it a miss if so. Thanks

nocoolnamesleft · 17/05/2024 21:26

The way chunks of the Diocletian palace were basically still in use was amazing.

I really enjoyed Split but it was a long time ago, I think a day was long enough to see the main bits of the city and another day we went on the bus to Trogir from Split, that was very nice to wander around. Final day went to Brac on the ferry. I went to Trogir again 10 years later with husband and kids, and they liked it too. It was end of season so quiet, no cruise ships in sight!!
