October half term

donkeyleg · 15/05/2024 06:32

So we are thinking of going away for a week abroad October half term 26th October to 2nd November.

Anyone know any places that will still be warm and open? Not talking red hot but maybe around 25-30 so warm enough to go in sea/pools if not to cold.
Don't want canaries

Thanks

There are currently tons of threads, you may want to search.

But the short answer- no, nothing will be properly sun proof and lots of resorts will have started shutting down.

Cyprus may be an option but we had rain and overcast there as well.

Mallorca

Season shuts down around 6/7 Nov

We went to Tenerife in October half term 3 years ago and it was lovely and warm, we sunbathed by the pool every day

Costa del Sol, flying into Malaga or the Algarve flying into Faro would be your best bets if you want to avoid the Canaries.

Majorca isn't reliable enough that time of year (and while some hotels etc are open until early November, others have already closed).

Mynewnameis · 15/05/2024 07:12

Canaries are most definitely open and warm

MyOtherProfile · 15/05/2024 07:13

Morocco is lovely at that time of year of you go to the coast.

We went to Sorrento last year in half term. In the 20s temp wise. Still swam in the sea. Occasionally needed a light cardi in the evening. Still busy but the municipal "beach" bit was closed to it was either pay to use a hotel one (we didn't do that) or swim off the old fishing bit beach which is fine or walk out to a popular swimming hole which is a bit of a walk but stunning.

Ibiza, Croatia

Comedycook · 15/05/2024 07:24

Maybe Cyprus?

Nap1983 · 15/05/2024 07:25

I went to Egypt last October, was lovely and warm!

donkeyleg · 15/05/2024 08:12

Thank you all.
We are going to Mallorca in July so wanted somewhere different.

Someone recommended Turkey, Antalya area. Has anyone been there that time of year?

Sorry I never thought to search for October half term threads but I will do that.

Kalkan in Turkey

It’s not liked on Mumsnet but for the weather Ras al Khaimah (Dubai)
or Egypt, Cape Verde. All within 6 hours and guaranteed sunshine.

TeamGeriatric · 15/05/2024 09:34

Europe is hit and miss by October half-term, we've had lovely warm swimming in the sea weather in the cinque terra in Italy and very pleasant 24 degrees in Paris a couple of years ago, but equally had jumper type temperatures in Croatia. As others have said you need to go further afield like Oman or Dubai for guaranteed heat.

minipie · 15/05/2024 14:43

We had a lovely sunny holiday in Cyprus but it was the week before, and it can be hit and miss. Going to Turkey (Dalaman) this year and crossing our fingers.

For more guaranteed weather, Mauritius if you can consider long haul. Long flight but direct, overnight if you want, and no jetlag. Or Marrakech if you don’t need beach.

WoshPank · 15/05/2024 15:09

There's open and open.

If you go somewhere that's about to be the end of the season, you may end up in a place where the resort is open but they're not necessarily offering everything they would in peak season. Which may be fine for you, but what I mean is I wouldn't book a place that closes in say mid November in expectation of getting great entertainment and extensive kids club options.

Icantfindanewname · 15/05/2024 15:20

We did Olu Deniz last year, as the hotels at Lara beach were closing. We were very lucky with the weather (info from the locals) and everything (including the beach parasols and sun loungers) was closing down from 1 November. On the positive side, all the excursions were cheap, eg £50 each to parasend, rather than £150, full day on a boat and lunch for four people, plus two 1:1 scuba lessons for three people, less than £100 in total. I'm not sure I would risk it again, I would probably go for Egypt to almost guarantee the weather.

TheMildManneredMilitant · 15/05/2024 15:27

If you can face the journey/cost then Florida. I've been twice in October H/T and weather was great.
