Driving to the Netherlands..good place to stopover on the way?

Hi,

we are driving to the north east of the Netherlands, I know it’s doable in one day but we want to do a stop over for a night on the way as we can’t check in until Monday and we want to go on the Sunday.

Any ideas? I have 4 children between 14,11,9 and 2 so somewhere family friendly.
Thanks 😊

are you going via the tunnel or a ferry?

We stayed in Ghent when we drove to the Netherlands (we went to Efteling) - was there about 24 hours. A nice town to wander around with small kids- they particularly enjoyed the belfry tour. We're doing the same journey but going via Bruges this time round. The worst bit of the journey is the traffic around Antwerp but I think that is unavoidable wherever you stop

If via the Calais we love Brugges and stop in the centre. There's a good underground carpark Near the Ibis I think

We are going by ferry Dover to Calais

yeah we drove up to the Belgian/netherlands border last year and the traffic was horrendous around Antwerp

It only took us about 3 hours to get to Leuwarden in the north from the Hook of Holland. We did take the night crossing from Harwich and booked a cabin as we'd had a long drive from the south west to Harwich on a Friday afternoon.

I live near Dover so it’s just the easier option for us to go by ferry

We always stop in Bruges.

Ghent has a LEZ that you have to pre-register for. Breda and Delft are both very nice.
