Airb&b cancelled 🤷‍♀️ Need Canary Wharf holiday apartments help

Springtimeserenite · 14/05/2024 12:45

I am really unfamiliar with London and asking for some help organising our stay please.

As it says on the title my friend booked holiday stay ages ago and the owner has just cancelled. I am quite sickened about it.

We need a flat around Canary Wharf area - this area has been selected as we thought it would be safe and convenient and we will be travelling with one 10 child after a friend recommended it.

The notification has just come through that the apartment is cancelled, no explanation, nothing.
Ive spent all day looking for an alternative but o have NO idea, I don’t know London at all.
Could anyone help please?

Dates are 24 July to 31 July. 2 adults one child.
As reasonable as possible, £1300 or under if possible.

An apartment will give us some space and be cheaper to do breakfast/lunches. Maybe two adjoining rooms in a hotel would work??

We just want to do the London touristy things, will be unfamiliar with tubes and so on too.

Any help please.

Canary wharf is safe but honestly quite far away from most of the tourist sites except for the Tower of London. It has good transport links but it'll take you awhile to get anywhere. Your budget is also quite low for 2 rooms? I'm not sure if you'll be able to find something within your budget, but look at north or Central London around zone 2 or 3.

Bankholidayboredom23 · 14/05/2024 14:10

Not what you asked but if you get your dc to apply for a blue peter card soon you should have it in time to get free entry for them to some places.

NisekoWhistler · 14/05/2024 14:13

Are you driving to london or taking the train?
Which direction are you coming into london from?

ShillyShallySherbet · 14/05/2024 14:16

Premier Inn County Hall is a great place to stay, really central.

mitogoshi · 14/05/2024 14:32

That's a very tight budget for two rooms for a week, even in other cities, London is very expensive. There are a few studios /1 bed apartments on booking.com which could work for you, in budget and some close to Canary Wharf though iffy reviews, personally I'd consider all sharing one room as you can get a holiday inn express including breakfast that way

I’ve not heard of this!! Blue Peter Bsdge!
Thank you.

The Terrible Thames boat looks like it’s not open to book yet. Or I hope I’ve not missed it.

The tricky thing - apart from where we will stay - is getting days sorted so things we want to see are together.

An apartment will suit us better, couldn’t do one room.

Not loving any so far unfortunately but I really am hopeful and appreciate all suggestions.

In a way it’s a bigger thing than just going abroad with all the areas/travelling and we really want it to work out - so inconvenient that the place we’d booked have cancelled. I’m hoping we dodged a bullet and will get somewhere better 🤞

You'll probably need to look at your budget because £1300 for a week won't stretch in anywhere Central -ish

NisekoWhistler · 14/05/2024 15:40

Why not look in the safest family neighbourhoods such as NW3, SW14, SW13, TW9 I'm sure you'll feel much more at home and will find what you need. If you like that idea you can run any Richmond ish ones by me and I'll be happy t help you

How about this? You can pretty much to walk to all the sites you’ll want to see and it’s a much area. Even has some outdoor space so you can eat outdoors some evenings in the hopefully sunny weather.

Do you know this area? Is it safe/easy to get to things? Ridiculous vague questions I know 🫣

Warwick Avenue is on the bakerloo like which takes you right through central. Not for from Marylebone. It's a nice area.

SheilaFentiman · 14/05/2024 16:29

read the small print in any booking.com apartment bookings because some require a chunky security deposit a few days before that you get back a few days after 🤔 some even want that in cash or bank transfer

SheilaFentiman · 14/05/2024 16:30

It might be worth looking along the Elizabeth line that your friend can take into Liverpool Street and you can take to Bond Street etc

SheilaFentiman · 14/05/2024 16:34

https://www.airbnb.com/slink/hqa9zaLO

Norwood junction - your friend can take city Thameslink to farringdon and you can take over ground to Victoria

rockingbird · 14/05/2024 16:45

Another - 8ive opted for the serviced apartment route not via air b&b

Take a look at aparthotels, like Marlin Apartments.

Springtimeserenite · 14/05/2024 17:53

Thanks everyone.
None of those suit, unfortunately due to the requirements from the booking company or over budget.
Am fed up, is very hard when I have no idea of areas, starting to worry if I’d manage the tubes myself 🤪
Also I know it’s not a huge budget, as people have pointed out, it’s a lot of money to me and will a lot of costs on top.
Anyway that’s it, 1300-1400 is what it is.
The one I like is Warwick Avenue one so far but don’t know the location etc.

We had booked a high rise apartment in Canary Wharf so i guess I’m trying to match up to it, with the views and so on; the view really made you feel you were in the big city 😉

Go to booking.com and search for Central London and your dates. Then look at the "Map View" and you'll be able to see exactly where the properties are situated.

Upsidedownlife · 14/05/2024 18:00

Warwick Avenue is more of a naice leafy residential area but very convenient and safe. Attached pic of the street that flat is on from google maps. You can also sing the song of the same name by Duffy when you’re on your way back on the tube every night, it’s very catchy.

Have to say that Warwick Avenue one looks very nice and an absolute bargain considering the decor, space and location. I’d snap it up before someone else does.

dontbelievewhatyousee · 14/05/2024 18:13

Canary Wharf is well connected actually!

MKDmumofflash · 14/05/2024 18:15

This may well be scoffed at but i loved our Canary Wharf holiday! We stayed in the travelodge docklands central with a fab view (well I thought so!). They've got rooms in July for about £90 a night. We found it had such easy access to the DLR, Elizabeth Line, River Boats, cable car, Cutty Sark etc. There are summer screens up as well https://canarywharf.com/whats-on/summer-screens/

Loved it! And I'd previously stayed at the County Hall Premier Inn

There are various options at this place in Canary Wharf

Canary Wharf really isn’t v far away from tourist places - only a few stops on the jubilee to Westminster, Green Park and up to Wembley. Having said that, Warwick Ave is lovely and posh - I’d definitely be considering that.

Springtimeserenite · 14/05/2024 18:45

Thank you all very much.

Yes I’ve had that Duffy song, Warwick Avenue, in My head all day!
I’m going to hold that one for another time, my friend can suss out the area as she’s in London more.

We are back on to concentrating only at Canary Wharf. It’s where my friend wants to go and we are basically piggybacking.

All help needed please to get an apartment booked this evening. I’m looking in Airb@b, the usual hotel ones, anywhere else
