3 day break in July one my own in Europe

May I have suggestions please for a 3 day break in Europe somewhere. I'm new at travelling abroad on my own. I'm on a budget, plus would prefer city break type stay. I'm late 50s and not into clubbing plus I'm teetotal.

I love the idea of Barcelona or Sorrento or Dubrovnik.

Help, please?

Are you OK with it being very hot, because it will be in those places in July?

When on a budget and going for a short break, I'd start by looking at where the convenient and cheaper flights go so from your nearest airports and also at decent times of day, not setting off at 6 am unless you're happy with a 3 am start and not arriving very late at night so you have to find your accommodation at this time and also pay for a night in a hotel but not benefit from a day at the destination, as a starting point.

All the budget airlines have a cheap flight search where you can look for the cheapest flights in any particular month to see what destinations come up that you might like the look at. Be aware that some airlines have what looks like fairly random schedules so might fly at 10 am on a Tuesday, 8 pm on a Friday and 6 pm on a Sunday, so worth looking at what flights are offered across the week. It's usually cheaper to fly midweek, so if you're flexible about when you go, that can be a good saving.

Other places that might suit include Lisbon, Palma Mallorca, Budapest or Reykjavik.

All of the places you list are lovely, but I would warn they are likely to be very warm and very busy in July. They are all places I would recommend doing earlier or later in the year, though. How hot are you happy for it to be? For me if I’m sightseeing, I struggle when it gets over 30 and really would prefer it to be a couple of degrees cooler.

I agree with @Bjorkdidit‘s advice about basing it on where is easy to get to for the first short break you do - it’s so easy to lose whole days just getting somewhere which when you’re only going for 3 days is a shame.

Some other options to consider:

Prague
Vienna
Ljubljana
Tallinn
Berlin

If you wanted to be warmer and more coastal / beachy, then I would suggest Porto, Lisbon, Palma, Nice

I would normally recommend Germany but the Football European Championships are until the 14th July and it can be getting crowded in some areas thanks to public viewing and hotels can be more expensive.

So it depends on your dates.

Stockholm is lovely, I would look also at Krakow or Prague.

If you want a bit more warm weather how about Lisbon?
