1 week All Inclusive Egypt vs 1 week self catering Caribbean

What holiday would you go for? We want to relax and go scuba diving.

Option 1: 1 week all inclusive in a 5* hotel in Sharm el Sheikh. Fly and flop.

Option 2: 1 week self catering staying in a villa with private pool on a small Caribbean island. Rent a car and eat at local restaurants.

Definitely the Caribbean, no contest

If Scuba is your thing, I'd say Egypt...unless you can get to Bonaire. Generally, the Caribbean isn't great for snorkelling / scuba. Certainly not the level of Egypt, Maldives or Barrier Reef. And its alot closer and cheaper!
If its a beach only holiday without the scuba, I'd go Caribbean for better quality of accommodation and food.

Caribbean is a lot more expensive than Egypt. You will be around a different type of holiday maker - so keep than into account with whichever way you decide

Depends on which Caribbean island? And how important the quality of the diving is to you.
Sharm has some excellent reefs with abundant and flourishing corals and a good variety of sea life. Caribbean diving can vary hugely depending on where you go.
Are you wanting shore diving or from boat? Drift diving? Wrecks? Big professional dive outfit or smaller personal service? Sharks? Turtles?
The answer to your question depends on a lot of things.

Dh is a keen diver and we go regularly to the Red Sea because the diving is excellent. There are some really lovely hotels too. If diving is the priority I’d go there. If you’re more about travelling around then the Caribbean.

Which Caribbean island?

Caribbean any day.

you will be travelling for 2 days of the holiday if you are only going for 7 nights. you've always got to factor in transfer times.
I would be looking at what flight times are available on the dates you can go - we compared Turkey and Mexico however it was better to go to Mexico even with a longer flight time because the flights to Turkey with Tui (we had a voucher to use so had to go with them) would have got us to the resort at 0200 the morning of day 2 of the proposed holiday whereas flying to Mexico at 0940 on the same date got us into the resort at 1600ish.

i would not go to the Caribbean for 7 nights, you realistically only have 5 days there unless you get a really optimal flight time overnight each way. In your position I'd do sharm as the diving is good. My actual preference would be for cavern diving in Mexico but that's another thread...

you also need to consider what time of year you are going if you are looking at diving in the Caribbean, certain times of year have better open water conditions than others plus weather conditions can make it difficult to get on the water.

go to Mexico and discover the cenote diving, it's awesome plus you can do open water diving in Cozumel and turtles in akumal 🐠
