Bruges - best place for waffles

We are in Bruges end of May and DD would love to go for breakfast one day (we have a s/c appartment).

Part of her ASD means we have to look and research restaurants always well in advance, so I wonder if anyone can recommend a good place. We stay around 10 minutes walk from the Belfrod and the Holy Blood Basilika.

Waffles are not a standard breakfast food in Belgium. Generally sold from specific places with all the toppings options. Depending on where you go, breakfast would be a croissant, with orange juice and a hot drink. or rolls, with maybe ham or cheese. Some places will branch out to foreign tourists with bacon and eggs. It's not often you see them offered as dessert either in restaurants - you need to have the proper mix and equipment. More of a takeaway item.

I had hopes that Bruges would cater for the poor ignorant tourist. We had plenty of pancake restaurants in the Netherlands so maybe that's where my assumption came from.

Lizzie’s waffles

Bruges has loads of restaurants and cafes all selling more or less the same thing (same for the shops) to the point where we wondered if one business owned all the waffle shops, another owned all the moules frites shops and so on.

You will definitely find waffles.

I was not impressed by the waffle offerings in Bruges.

Chez Albert waffles are lovely, they’ve got that slightly chewy dense texture to them so aren’t dry at all. It’s a takeaway though so you’d have to eat whilst strolling around the beautiful squares. Have fun, I love it there!

Laurence Waffles for takeaway. Lizzie's are great. House of Waffles is popular with great service and lots of choice.
