I'm getting surgery there this week, and I have to pay with cash. Will £4,000 have to be declared? I've searched the internet, but different websites tell me different things. I'll also be taking spending money which will be in the lira🙂

Sounds really dodgy and scary! Shock

I agree with you! It's not a major procedure or anything like that, but I've been wanting it done now for a really long time, and the positives outweigh the negatives.

What's the procedure?
What are the positives and your perception of the negatives?
Have you made a will?

Bignanna · 10/05/2024 17:12

OP - if it cost 4K in Turkey, then it would have cost a lot more in the U.K.,so it sounds like a major procedure to me!
Just hope it’s not a facelift, bum lift or extensive dental work!

Amx · 10/05/2024 17:23

Cash in hand in Turkey? Fuck that

xyz111 · 10/05/2024 17:36

Doesn't sound dodgy at all!! 🤦🏻‍♀️

RedBananas12 · 10/05/2024 18:53

Complete madness. Incredibly stupid to pay cash for a surgery abroad.

You’re having surgery with someone who wants to be paid cash in hand?! You’re a braver woman than me!

I agree please think carefully op!

3luckystars · 10/05/2024 23:05

Be careful.

DumpedByText · 10/05/2024 23:28

Are you crazy, you're really having surgery with a surgeon who will only take cash. I just despair with how desperate some people are! 🤦 I hope it goes well for you?

circumventM · 11/05/2024 07:56

are you going alone?
where will you recover? and how long is the recovery?

circumventM · 11/05/2024 07:59

Is your decisión at all related to your other thread about your DH?

Tangoes · 11/05/2024 10:24

You are allowed to carry upto $10,000 USD internationally.
Turkish people love cash in hand and in some clothing stores there will be a cheaper price for cash and a more expensive price for cc.
You have no comeback paying cash for surgery.Take heed of all those horror stories that appear regularly in the papers.

quizzys · 11/05/2024 10:28

OP just wants to know how much cash she can import to Turkey.

The rights and wrongs of having the surgery done and the fact that cash is used for payment is irrelevant. OP has her mind made up and won't listen to any lecturing on that point anyway.

so, for example, if a poster asked for present recommendations for her partner, and then follows up with detail that he smacks her around… you would respond to her present rec question and nothing more?

Meltingchocolate · 11/05/2024 12:23

What’s the story about the dh?

Maddi1234 · 11/05/2024 12:41

Please note you are only allowed to take £1000 in cash out of the UK, unless you declare it to customs with proof of where you got it. They have sniffer dogs at the airport to enforce this.

Also — no reputable medical concern in Turkey would ask for cash in hand. Not just saying this - have lived here half my life.
