Where to go on a short couples break?

My parents have kindly offered to have the DC for 4 nights in the summer so me and DH can get away for a short break. Any recommendations of where to go/hotels to stay in?

So far we are considering Ibiza or Barcelona but open to more options as long as it’s a 2-3 hour flight. Looking for somewhere where I can happily sit by a pool and read a book all day but also somewhere with things to do, nice restaurants and bars

Thanks!

Florence is not that easy to fly to ftom
uk. How hot do you want it? I never go in high summer anywhere these days!

You could look at Bordeaux. Friends went there and liked it a lot. Any coastal Spanish resort! Nice is quite expensive but loads of brilliant restaurants. There are hotels with pools in the villages north of Nice too. All of that area is glorious. Plus all of the coast is lovely.

I also like Brittany or what about Jersey? Has everything.

DD is going to Palma Majorca. Lots of great restaurants. Enough to see and most hotels seem to have pools but some are bigger than others.

Highly recommend Malaga. Lots of lovely restaurants. The marina is pretty and so is the old town.

Bruges is lovely and there are always good Eurostar deals if you're travelling out of London. Means you avoid the time taken up with the airport. We stayed in Pand Hotel which was beautiful and had the most amazing breakfasts included in the price which included bubbly!

Venice is fabulous for couples

Seville, but not in the height of summer. Hotel La Palma in Stresa, Lake Maggiore - my happy place.

Prague is an amazing city. You can easily miss all the stag dos

Venice ? Did this last year was glorious

We're doing Santorini this year

You can fly to Pisa and hop on a train to Florence, although I’d look at visiting Lucca too (the summer music festival has some world class acts).

Porto and Lisbon are both great destinations.

Bordeaux is lovely (where else could you see a huge digital art gallery housed in a WWII submarine base?).

The OP was specifically asking about short couples though. In my experience, Venice is better appreciated if you are taller.

TheDogsMother · 08/05/2024 10:39

Take no notice OP. Me and DH are very short and have enjoyed many of the destinations listed 🤣🤣.

Seriously though Biarritz is well worth considering. We went last year for my birthday and it is a beautiful and stylish place, lovely beaches, architecture and shops. If you love fish and shellfish you can't go wrong either.

I agree with a pp and I’d suggest Jersey. Very short flight. We went to some amazing restaurants and the weather was fab. Lots to do and the bus service gets you everywhere. Duty free shopping as well so you could pick up a bargain.

Venice in the height of summer is not pleasant. Hotel with a pool? Could be a challenge. Also are you going to read by a pool in Venice? Slightly odd thing to do on that city! You really need the possibility of a sea breeze!

IOMQuestions · 08/05/2024 11:33

Malaga, great bars and selection of hotels. Lots of stuff to wander about and do. Palma, Mallorca. You can get the train to soller and then the tram to Port Soller, lovely bars, very lovely hotels....

rookiemere · 08/05/2024 11:34

Depends how good you are with heat in the summer. Budapest or Gdansk may be slightly cooler and are great for a city break.

I have flown there and don’t remember it being difficult..? It was a very short hop into the city actually, quite straightforward.
