Hotel near in Malta near airport

We’re flying in and our flight lands at 1 am, so we need a hotel for the first night somewhere closer to the airport. Can anyone suggest somewhere, it will ideally need to have check in desk open in the middle of the night. Also, should we get a taxi or pre-book or transfer?

We’ve got accommodation book for the rest of our stay, but just need to book somewhere for the first night.

The airport is so close to Sliema and Valletta, 15 mins by taxi so you don't necessarily need to stay at the airport. For this reason I'm not even sure there are lots of airport hotels. The island is so compact that nothing is very far.

Agree, by the time you get in a taxi you might as well just go to your hotel. Even if you are in Mellieha it’s only going to be 30 mins or so, especially at that time of night.

Yes but the hotel they're staying in won't let them check in 12 hours early unless they book another night.

I'd probably just get a taxi from the airport taxi rank and stay in Sliema. Find somewhere to stash your luggage on the first day and get the water bus to Valetta for the day then go onto your other hotel for the rest of the holiday.
