Hotel to reimburse

Booked a hotel for 2 nights in 5 days' time and have to cancel because of work.

Booked via Hotels.com and chose the option free cancellation BUT failed to read that this applies only 7 days in advance. Have booked a lot with Hotels.com and the cancellation has always been up to 24 hours before. I appreciate that not reading the T&C for this booking is my fault however I consider this U of the hotel/website.

Would be happy to reschedule the booking for another date.

Hotels.com say it's 0% reimbursement if we want to reschedule or cancel now.

How can we try to get at least a partial refund?

NHS? No chance of reimbursement in that case. I would go straight to the hotel and keep your fingers crossed for ending up speaking to someone understanding.

Don't be too hard on yourself OP, we all make mistakes like this. As others have suggested, try calling the hotel directly and explain there's been a bereavement which you obviously couldn't foresee so could they please change the dates free of charge. If they say no keep it booked while you ask work if they'll cover the expense if you're being kind enough to go in during leave. Good luck!

Thanks for your kind words. Sorry, I don't understand; I can't keep it booked as I am working on the days of the booking?

Have you got travel
Insurance with your bank account? Might be worth a try. Unlikely they'll cover it but not harm in asking.

Otherwise try and sell it on.

Have you tried contacting the hotel directly to ask?

SheilaFentiman · 06/05/2024 07:31

By “keep it booked” - a PP meant don’t cancel the booking until you have spoken to work, since you will end up paying anyway. You then have the invoice or receipt to show work.

Could your DH go instead, on his own? Would a friend want to buy it from
you?

That's very decent of you OP.

Ring the hotel and tell them the circumstances. They may be flexible.
