Small beach resort max in one hour from Barcelona?

furusato · 05/05/2024 10:00

Flying to Barcelona in July, 40s couple no kids.

Looking for a very chilled beach town, happy with slightly inland too, for lazy days and pretty vistas.

Picture strolling around in a sun hat, cafe breakfasts and flopping by the pool/sea with a good book. - up to an hour drive from Barcelona airport.

Any suggestions? Thanks 🙏

Tossa de Mar is a nice little seaside town. It’s a little bit further than an hour but not by much. Castle, cobbled streets, tapas bars, the usual souvenir shops and a beach.

Begur.

Funkyslippers · 05/05/2024 10:56

Salou is lovely

I would also recommend Tossa de Mar. It’s a but further than an hour from Barcelona airport but closer to Girona if you could fly there instead.

MrsVeryTired · 05/05/2024 12:59

Salou is definitely not peaceful or chilled Grin, Cambrils is better option if going that way and perfect for couple with no kids (its fine for kids too but Salou better suited)
Tossa de Mar is fab but quite a drive. Castelldelfells is good and very close to Barcelona.

MrsVeryTired · 05/05/2024 13:00

And yes Tossa de Mar close to Girona airport, Girona a lovely small city for a visit too.

Sitges is absolutely lovely and very easy to get to on the train. It's perfect to combine with a trip to Barcelona.

furusato · 05/05/2024 16:12

Thank you all for these suggestions! I did think about flying to Girona too.. 😁

Another recommendation for Sitges, only 40 minutes by train from Barcelona

Mrsjayy · 05/05/2024 17:18

La Pinidea is lovely just round the coast a bit from salous main resort and buses go to Barcelona. We have stayed in the Golden Donaire which suited our ages with no kids.

Mrsjayy · 05/05/2024 17:20

Ah it's 90 minutes from Barcelona.

Given what the OP has asked for, I don't think Sitges would fit the bill really. It can be very busy/noisy and is very expensive in terms of accommodation, eating out, etc.

Salou is like Basildon

jeaux90 · 06/05/2024 15:14

Have you actually booked flight? Otherwise Girona then drive to Begur, lots of lovely beaches near there. It's a great area to explore.

Favouritefruits · 06/05/2024 17:26

La Pineda is a smallish quiet resort! About an hour from Barcelona. A few restaurants and shops but not loads to choose from. A very beautiful beach.

No just there, we really liked it and I want to go back but dh likes to try different places.

If you are willing to travel for 2 hours by trakn (not sure about the driving time) the Cote Vermille has a lot of beautiful, small seaside towns - Cerbere, Collioure, Banyuls sur Mer.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 12/05/2024 00:18

We stayed in Sitges - it was about 30 mins on the train from what I can remember.

It wasn't busy, noisy or expensive when we went - but that was a few years back and in October so imagine July might be quite different.

Hobbesmanc · 12/05/2024 07:21

Sitges is gorgeous but can get very busy and fabulously gay. If you have the option to fly to Girona try the Palafrugell area. Three lovely lvillages, Llafranc, Calella and Tamarui. There's a lovely walk connecting them.

Doghairdoishare · 12/05/2024 07:24

We took the train from Barcelona to Sitges and it was great! Lots of beachfront places to eat, winding lanes of shops and a sandy beach. The train station is right in the little town too.

Megjobethamy · 12/05/2024 07:35

Estartit is about 40 minutes from Girona. Lovely seaside town with a great beach. Nice restaurants overlooking the sea..

huuskymam · 12/05/2024 07:54

Calella has beautiful beaches, not busy and an hour from Barcelona on the train.

MarjorieDanvers · 12/05/2024 07:55

I do like Sitges but I think Tossa de Mar is so lovely! It’s only just over an hours drive to Barcelona.
