UK 5* hotels

Do 5* hotels still exist ?
Who classifies them as such?
I think it used to be the Tourist Board but they don't seem to exist any more.
Any ideas of how to find them? Thanks

Yes plenty. I'm major cities and I'm the countryside. They vary in style and character

netto · 02/05/2024 17:34

Thanks, do you know how to find them? Google is just taken over by Sponsored entries and links to Booking.com

Google, just scroll down past the sponsored entries.

BRITAINS FINEST or Luxury escapes, where are you thinking of going

SqueakyDinosaur · 02/05/2024 17:45

The star system isn't necessarily the only way to judge. What facilities are you looking for? A big, grand hotel or a boutique hotel or a country house hotel? Plenty of lovely places are 4star rather than 5, if for instance they don't have a full gym, or 24 hrs room service.

netto · 02/05/2024 17:51

We're looking at a country house type hotel the northern Lakes, it doesn't need a gym nor 24 hour room service.
Thank you, I will look at BRITAINS FINEST and Luxury escapes

You can sort by ratings, facilities etc on trip advisor

Brimstone Hotel and Spa near Ambleside (is that Northern Lakes? I'm not so good on geography). It was lovely, especially if you like spas.

TraitorsGate · 02/05/2024 18:16

Country hotels break have nice country hotels in the lake district

ComingtoKent · 02/05/2024 19:39

Also worth looking at Relais and Chateaux, they're lovely and usually five star. Similarly Small Luxury Hotels and Leading Hotels of the World. Or search on hotels.com or similar for the area you want and filter for 5 stars.

Maybe on Mr and Mrs Smith?
We love Grantley Hall in North Yorkshire as a really nice 5* vibes hotel.

The Forestside in Grasmere is a beautiful hotel

SqueakyDinosaur · 02/05/2024 22:48

I hope you find somewhere you absolutely love, @netto ! I've only done SC in that area so I can't help, but you have several suggestions here and I hope you find the perfect one for you.

The Samling, Ambleside
Gilpin, Windermere
both gorgeous with Michelin starred restaurants
I have heard good things about Farlam Hall,Brampton if you are going further north.

mitogoshi · 02/05/2024 22:59

There's quite a few options but you need to think about what style you want because they vary from small but luxurious to larger with more facilities.

Not the Lake District but I highly rate the Bath Crescent spa for anyone either wanting a base for the Peak District or luxurious stay, added advantage is lots of local restaurants in walking distance.

Salemforcuddles · 03/05/2024 22:30

Gleneagles

netto · 03/05/2024 23:24

Thank you all so much. I have looked at all suggestions and I'm looking at some again.

Brimstone is lovely.

If North Yorkshire appeals, Rudding Park is fab too
