Where to find a white sand and palm trees - late October

October half term. So it's late in the month, I'd like to go somewhere pretty, somewhere safe and somewhere where it isn't rainy season.

Open to any suggestions but would prefer direct flights.

Just me and DH, in our 50s.

Caribbean is out in October - unless you go to a southerly island like Aruba (Direct flights available). Have you considered Thailand? You'd need a connecting flight through Bangkok unless you flew with Tui to Phuket.

Cape Verde

Glitterbiscuits · 28/04/2024 13:16

Hadnt thought of Thailand. I'll have a look.

I never hear anything good about Cape Verde. One friend went and said it was windy and another ended up in hospital after food poisoning along with half her hotel. They are currently pursuing the holiday company through the court.

Mauritius we went mid November for honeymoon and it was lovely.

Sweetheart7 · 28/04/2024 13:21

Dominican Republic or one of the other parts of the Carribean.

Clearinguptheclutter · 28/04/2024 13:21

Zanzibar. Went there in October many moons ago.

I considered Cape Verde once and every Hotel review I read said people got food poisoning.

How about Mauritius?

Cyprus

Antalya in Turkey. Some beautiful 5 star hotels there.

I was going to suggest Turkey some really gorgeous hotels. Weather would be a gamble Oct half term is so late this year literally going into November so it could be not very warm or rain for OP. OP would need Egypt.

WhatWouldYouDo33 · 28/04/2024 14:54

Sicily was very warm last October. You could still swim in the sea. But of course unpredictable these days.

HalleLouja · 28/04/2024 14:55

Cyprus. Usually mid to late twenties that time of year. Pools are freezing but sea is toasty.

Thailand. We live there and it is 30s all year round. In October you’re better off leaving the southern islands out. Phuket has direct flights but it is also very easy to fly to Bangkok and then a short journey on to various islands such as Koh Chang which is a good all rounder.

Indian Ocean, Arabian Sea, far east.

Nw22 · 28/04/2024 15:44

is the weather ok in Maldives then?

I think so, just past monsoon season. It’s a long way for a week though and there aren’t always direct flights.

Yes my first thought when OP said white sands and palm trees. Closest place to heaven I’ve ever been.

Tel12 · 28/04/2024 16:04

I'd go to Mauritius.

SwordBilledHummingbird · 28/04/2024 16:12

I vote for the Maldives though it's a long way to go if you only have a week.

PhuckyNell · 28/04/2024 16:19

What about Dubai? I'm here at the moment and although it's not October it has got palm trees, is safe and hot

OwlWhereIsYourTowel · 28/04/2024 18:12

The Seychelles

We went to Cape Verde last November. No food poisoning, yes it’s windy but it’s a gentle breeze rather than blowing a gale. Pools, sandy beaches, palm trees, wonderful friendly staff and amazing food and drink. Loved it!
