Mauritius - Best trips?

We are heading to Mauritius early next year for a milestone birthday, just a couple.

If you have been what would you say are the must-do sites or excursions? We are staying in Bel Ombré and debating hiring a car to make trips cheaper.

I have joined a FB group for this question but just got hounded by local tour operators and no unbiased opinions! Thanks

Have a wonderful time, we loved it.

We used taxis there which you can hire for the day and we're very good value, car hire would be great too.

Favourite trip out was here https://www.mauritian-wildlife.org/Ileauxaigrettes to the Ile aux Aigrette, beautiful island with lovely birds, beautiful clear seas, did the eco tour.

There are lots of lovely things to do, depends on what you like!
Boat trips to Isle aux cerfs, or to swim with dolphins. Both can include lunch on one of the little islands.
Vanilla park to see the huge tortoises.
Walking on the sea bed to feed the fish.
Glass hulled boats
Trip to Port Louis, go to the waterfront development and the fruit and veg market.
Botanical gardens
Bois cheri tea plantation
Chamarel park and tum distillery
Sugar cane museum
Drive around and admire the scenery!
