I'm accompanying DH to a conference in Florida and will hopefully be visiting the Keys.
I've started looking at the different resorts etc and I'm a bit overwhelmed. Has anyone got any accomodation recommendations and places we should visit? Thanks.

Ooh, I was actually looking for holidays to Key West earlier today but hotels are still so expensive - is your husbands company picking up the tab?

So much to see & do in KW & great for adults. Maybe stay somewhere like Ocean Key Resort?

Have breakfast at Blue Heaven or Louie’s Backyard whilst chickens are walking around your feet 😁

Visit Hemingways house & the nearby lighthouse. Take a pic at the southernmost point buoy. Mallory Square for the sunset party. Visit Dry Tortugas NP.

We drove down from Miami years ago. The first night we booked a roadside motel on Key Largo. We went snorkelling on a boat trip in the John Pennekamp marine park. Very choppy as weather not great, but was fun. Then we stayed in a small place in Key West south of Duval. We ditched the car, hired bikes and had a very relaxing time. Hemingway house for sure, plus sunset party etc. We biked most days to the beach at Fort Zachary.

Parrot Key was lovely.

The Keys are absolutely best appreciated from the air. If you can, get a one way flight from Miami then drive back. The flights sre regular and cheap (or at least they used to be!) We done this and it was fantastic although you will pay more for a one-way car rental. Worth it though! Definitely do Dry Tortugas, beautiful.

We flew there from Orlando to key west. We spent. 3 days exploring Key West. We then hired a car and spent the rest of the week making our way back up, staying 4 nights in various places on route - the last day we just did one long journey from the keys to Orlando.

Key West is the biggest part and has most to do.

I stayed in the Mermaid and Alligator on Key west. Loved it. More romantic inn than resort though.

I assumed you were in Miami, if you are up north in Orlando I'd go to the Gulf keys instead. Siesta key was fantastic.

PinkPondQueen · 27/04/2024 13:16

I also assumed you'd be in Miami! Where will you be in Florida?

Thank you for all the suggestions, I'm going to look at all of them. We're flying into Tampa and driving down. Flights and car are booked, now looking at accommodation. We have a week before we need to be back in Tampa for the conference.
