Japan - reasonably cheap hotels - where did you stay? (Tokyo, Kyoto, Hiroshima?)

I'm travelling to Japan with my 12 year old daughter - just the two of us. We don't have a huge budget, but would prefer not to stay in dorms (actually backpackers hostels ok in private rooms). I don't know where to start!

If you have been to Japan which hotels did you stay in?(That you'd recommend).

Look at what they call "business hotels". They're usually the cheapest option and perfectly adequate. I've stayed in a few.

The only thing to watch out for is that some do have smoking rooms so make you check and book a non smoking one (assuming you don't smoke!).

Oh and I'd be wary of a so called private room in a hostel. DS booked one for his last trip and there was just a thin divider between each "room" that didn't even go all the way to the ceiling!

B Hotels seem ok, we stayed in one in Ikebukuro.
Currently in Hotel Monday in Asakusa, fab view of the temple.
The OMO5 Gion was lovely too for Kyoto,lots of walkable sights.

hi @ErinAoife I went last summer - had a fantastic time. Happy to share where I stayed. It was a reasonably cheap holiday iirc.
