We have a family holiday booked next year for June, a family member have just booked their wedding in Spain for 4 days before we are due to depart on our family holiday. Our children will be 3 and 1 at the time. If we fly home the day after the wedding this gives us 2ish days to repack and get all the stuff ready. Has anyone ever had to do this? Do you have any advice on managing the repacking, washing etc

Do you have your own washing machine and tumble drier?

DelilahBucket · 26/04/2024 15:54

Assuming you will only be in Spain for a couple of days, try and get the bulk of your holiday packing done before you go. Otherwise it's going to be very stressful for you with two young children in the mix.

@Icanseethebeach At home? We have a washing machine but no dryer, we wouldn’t have any on either holiday. The place where they are getting married is a very quiet Spanish town with not much there

@DelilahBucket yes this is what is worrying me! We would only be in Spain for 3 or 4 days for the wedding so wouldn’t need to pack ridiculous amounts, I suppose I just worry about getting things washed, dried and repacked and not forgetting anything in that short amount of time being home

How long is each holiday?

PiggieWig · 26/04/2024 15:57

I’d go to the launderette when you get back from the first, so you can do multiple loads at once.

Firstbaby1234 · 26/04/2024 15:57

@PiggieWig we would be in Spain for the wedding for 3 or 4 days, our family holiday is for a week

Where is the second break?

Itsaloadofbollocksbut · 26/04/2024 15:58

So you not each have 10+ days worth of clothes?

Schum · 26/04/2024 15:59

i think it would be fine, if you’re only at the wedding for 4 days you won’t have that much to wash. Just try and pack what you can beforehand.

Firstbaby1234 · 26/04/2024 16:00

@LIZS we are going to menorca so also Spain, it’s a package holiday, we did try and change it but the admin fee alone was £150 and that’s without the price difference so not really an option either

@Itsaloadofbollocksbut we could indeed by more clothes for each holiday but would seem pointless, there is also other things to factor in like toiletries, nappies, swim nappies etc

Firstbaby1234 · 26/04/2024 16:01

@Schum yes we will have to be very very organised beforehand

Pack what you can before you go to the wedding. Take anything you need for the holiday that you took to the wedding to the launderette for a service wash.

The toiletries / nappies etc can all be packed before the wedding.

LIZS · 26/04/2024 16:01

Take whatever you need and rinse by hand if needs be. The sun will soon dry and remove any stains.

lightsactionsleep · 26/04/2024 16:06

Can you extend/amend your holiday? That is, fly out to the new city/place in time for the wedding, then internally fly or get the train to the holiday destination. That way, there's only 2 flights, not four.

lightsactionsleep · 26/04/2024 16:08

Sorry, scrap the above, I've just read your update!

MustDust · 26/04/2024 16:13

Absolutely do-able. This is what I would do. Create a pile of things for the family holiday that aren't going to the wedding, a pile for the wedding only, and a pile for both. As you finish up at the wedding, split your items over cases as you repack, use bags inside if need be, so anything that's not coming on the family holiday stays in a bag untouched till you get back, anything that's coming on both gets repacked after a trip to the launderette (guilty secret pleasure after a family holiday, I used to go and hide in there for an hour to get away from them all, yes I have my own washer and dryer 😁). Add in the holiday only pile. Pour large drink and get ready for round 2!

Firstbaby1234 · 26/04/2024 16:20

Thank you everyone. I’m more at ease now!

@MustDust this is exactly what I’m going to do!
