Wilder, unspoilt, possibly bohemian places - France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Netherlands

Probably more likely France, Netherlands or Northern Italy/Spain as I will be driving. August. Any ideas? The Camargue? The Frisian Islands? Asturias? I think parts of Southern Spain may be like this? Sagres? Almeria? Spain and Portugal appeal more but I am conscious I have two kids with me so perhaps limiting driving distances might be wise! Trip will be in August. Two or three weeks. Budget friendly as possible! Camping I expect. Thanks!

I've just come back from Cabo de Gata in Spain - near Almería. I loved it and think it might fit your bill. Amazing mountains and desert scenery. Deserted beaches. Check it out.

Midi Pyrenees? For campsites I've found Yelloh village ones tend to be a bit cheaper than the eurocamps but less English speaking children for yours to make friends with if that is a consideration.

Ribadesella in north Spain

Southern Spain is becoming uncomfortably hot in July and August. (Was there in 2022 and 23).

I'm going to northern Portugal this summer - very close to the Spanish border. I'm hoping it is a more simple, less 'touristy' location than southern Portugal. The beeches look fabulous too - in a wild and windy way - I'm not a lazing in the sun sort of girl.

Water situation is dire too. Not sure if swimming pools will be filled this summer in some areas
