Where to go in U.K.

My husband has booked annual leave in June, July and August (holiday year runs September to September) so he needed to use it up.

We are going to north Devon in May and then Italy booked for September but we want to get a long weekend or a few days somewhere in the U.K.

Im on maternity leave so spending a lot of time at home hence why I want to get another little break in. We don’t normally go away this much!

We have a 3 month old (nearly 4 months) and wondered where in the U.K. people would recommend?

We live in the South West and don’t want to drive too far.

Things we like/need:

  • dog friendly (have two dogs)
  • baby friendly
  • normally we go to Appledore in North Devon and love it there but want to try somewhere else - so maybe somewhere with a similar vibe
  • coffee shops and going out for brunch kinda vibe
  • good dog walks
  • maybe a nice national trust type property near

New Forest?

Biomic · 25/04/2024 17:33

Highly recommend Tenby and surrounding coastal areas like the Gower in South West Wales

Cotswolds?

Ilovemyshed · 25/04/2024 18:36

Forest of Dean
North Somerset around Porlock

Cotswolds or Pembrokeshire are both great for dogs. I'd probably go with Pembrokeshire for the beaches but double check the dog rules while you're there. Tenby beach allows dogs on most of it year round from memory and that's a huge Sandy one with rock pools.

Dorset

MinnieMountain · 25/04/2024 18:42

Tenby is a good shout. 1 of the 2 beaches allows dogs in the summer. You can walk the Pembrokeshire coast path and explore the Norman castles. Manorbier is a cracker.

Another vote for Dorset.

Northumberland- Seahouses, Bamburgh.
Alnmouth. Gorgeous beaches, dog friendly all year.

Sorry, just seen you don’t want to drive too far!!

PoppyCherryDog · 25/04/2024 20:20

thank you everyone think I’m going to investigate Tenby :) and Pembrokeshire.

We actually already live in the Cotswolds although very edge of it but I may look at some places as it’ll be a relatively short journey.

One day we will do Northumberland I did it as a kid and loved it! But sadly have to wait for little one to be a bit older I think before we take in a super long car journey.

I’ve heard good things about Forest of Dean so will have a look. Think it’s only 1.5 hour drive from us as well.

Isle of Wight is surprisingly good! I think the ferry is a bit of a psychological barrier but it's worth it!

I went there years ago and enjoyed it, I’ll have a look :) I think our nearest ferry port isn’t too far as well

Pembrokeshire is beautiful. This holiday let is right on a very wide dog friendly beach in Newport - one of the best spots in the area. https://www.peg-y-don.com/
