We are planning a trip to Greece in June, family of 4. We want beach, relaxation, scenery and good food and a bit of sight seeing, We have been in Kefalonia, Zakyntos, Corfu, all beautiful. DH and I have been in Naxos and Santorini. We want to try somewhere new. Thinking of Crete but have read mix comments.

Any advice would be appreciated

We have been to a few and like Rhodes best

Forgottenmyphone · 25/04/2024 12:10

Crete would definitely be my choice as it has history, mountains, hiking, food and wine, waterfalls, kid-friendly attractions (something for everyone!) Boat trips to Balos Beach and Spingalonga will have started running by then.

Loved Crete, no experience of the others. Lefkada is nice?

Toooldforthis36 · 25/04/2024 12:12

Island hopping the best fun in Greece - Cyclades islands easy to get about.

Rhodes is beautiful.
If you love good food I'd highly recommend Eden Roc Hotel

Strokethefurrywall · 25/04/2024 12:28

Rhodes every time. My favorite Greek island - Lindos is amazing, and if you don't want to stay there, Pefkos is just a few miles further up the coast ♥️

Crete is a big island with loads of different types of places to stay. We stayed in Sissi the last time we went. It is only 4 miles from Malia, but it couldn't be more different. Sissi is a small low key resort with accommodation ranging from basic to boutique hotels.

Just do your research and decide on the type of resort you want to stay in. There is something there for everyone.

Last time we went we visited Knossos, the Lassithi Plateau and Spinalonga - all very much worth seeing.

Thank you all. Will check Crete and Rhodes and which has the best deals as it is a bit last minute

Skiathos is a lovely island.

Ooh I love the Greek Islands and would also vote for Crete. I've stayed in both the North West and North East of the island. There is lots to see with it being a large island so you'll need to research which area is best for you. I've enjoyed Elafonisi beach, Spinalonga, walking the Samaria Gorge, and indulging my love of Second World War history by visiting both the German war cemetery at Maleme and the Allied war cemetery at Souda Bay. Sadly haven't made it to Knossos yet but it will be on the list for a return visit. I also did a 2 night cruise to Egypt to visit Cairo and the pyramids when I went to Crete about 25 years ago!

I've also been to Kefalonia, Zante, Lesbos, Skiathos, Skopelos, Alonnisos, Paxos, Corfu, Rhodes, Santorini, Lefkada and Halkidiki and would happily return to most of these islands.

Alternatively, you could look at island hopping depending on how long you are going for. I'm off to Sifnos and Milos with a 2 night stay in Athens this year, can't wait!

Enjoy researching and hope you find somewhere you'll love.

I enjoyed a trip to Prasonisi, where the Mediterranean Sea meets the Aegean Sea. Also don't miss the Lindos Acropolis (if you like that kind of thing), well worth a visit when you're in Lindos.

Kos is beautiful. We stayed in Tigaki beautiful sandy beach and you can get a bus from there to Kos town 20 minutes away.

We stayed there a few years ago and enjoyed it very much. We are going back to Kos, but to a different area this time.

Beetree123 · 25/04/2024 18:52

So much choice. Thank you. I am getting excited. Will spend some time looking at it tonight
