Marrakech what to do?! ☀️

Hey,

My husband and I have booked an all inclusive just outside Marrakech in October for some winter sun and something to look forward (i’ve suffered 2 consecutive miscarriages so really excited to be going away with my husband and enjoying some time together)….

The resort is about 15mins outside the capital so we’re planning to do a couple of day trips to the capital.

Would love to have recommendations please!
we love culture and history and up for any experiences.
Also any local restaurants that you would recommend would be fab 😀

thank you 💓

The Yves Saint Laurent gardens are beautiful. I also enjoyed the Medina. There are some great restaurants- my favourite was Nomad. Enjoy ☺️

The capital of Morocco is Rabat...

If you're near Marrakesh, definitely book a trip up to the Atlas mountains, we had a local driver take us, went to a Berber village, walked up a way by waterfalls, had lunch by a river, it was stunning.
The souk is intense but fascinating, and yes to the Medina.

It should be lovely weather, we went in November and it was definitely bikini weather by the pool in the hotel. Do get a hammam if possible.

I would cover up a bit outside the hotel, cotton shirt, shoulders covered, long floaty skirt, that sort of thing. Saying that I wore knee length shorts in the mountains and felt comfortable.

I hope you have a great time!

We just came back a couple of weeks ago.
Places to go: Jardin Majorelle - but it’s full of people trying to get the perfect Insta photo! You need to book in advance. The Secret Garden in the Medina is lovely - it has a nice cafe for lunch too. You won’t need to book there.
A good hammam experience is excellent - we missed it this time as DH has a bad back. There’s plenty to choose from but again you need to book in advance.
Walking round the medina is certainly an experience not to be missed - it’ll drive you mad with the noise and dust and motorbike fumes!
You can’t take money into Morocco, but you can get cash at the airport - if you take £s, you can convert to DRM commission free. Most restaurants take card though. Many places don’t serve alcohol either.
Be prepared for crazy queues at the airport, both entering and leaving the country - plus you need paper boarding passes rather than digital.
Where is your hotel located?

Another vote for Nomad. The food was outstanding.

Atlas mountains are beautiful. We stayed there in a dark sky area for a few days. Visited waterfalls, went hiking.

Lovey! I cannot wait. It’s been a rough time for us and something fun and special to look forward to.

I travelled to Egypt solo and then met a friend in Luxor just before the Arab spring uprising 🤯 …blonde and 22 😬total insanity! we went to the non touristy places (very very stupid) and ended up finally in Cairo which was an experience I’ll never forget or recommend.
I absolutely loved the history and culture but it was crazy and some very dodgy men along the way so I’m hoping Marrakech will be a little easier and it probably will if I have my husband with me.
ill need to remind myself of some of the Arabic!

I have two must visits. The Bahia Palace is stunning especially if you love history. As someone else has said Jardin Majorelle it’s amazing-we went at the start of the day and it was peaceful but by the time we came out there was a huge queue. The nearby Yves Saint Laurent museum and Berber museums are lovely too. There is a great guide called Youssef we used for the Medina he gave us an amazing history lesson on the area https://www.marrakechtourguide.com/index.php

Hijacking this thread!
Have you been to marakesh yet? We ate going over NY and staying at the same resort just outside the centre. Just wanted to pick your brains about the whole experience!

Madrassa Ben Yousef is beautiful but get there when it opens otherwise it’s madness!

Blueberrymuffin8 · 12/10/2024 16:45

Just be prepared for a long queue when you get there. Takes a while to get through passport control x
