If you have been to Fethiye, Turkey what money did you take with you?

Do we really need pounds, euros and lira?? If so, how much would you take of each??

We’re going for 11 nights (10 full days) all inclusive so the money we take will mainly be for trips and if we want to buy anything when we go explore.

We had lira and used that in Fethiye last autumn, paying on GBP on card where we didn't use cash (even in the market some stalls had machines!). Didn't even consider taking euros tbh.

Im so jealous we had a lovely holiday and I loved Fethiye!

Fethiye is really lovely, with some amazing restaurants. We stayed in a hotel near the marina with a rooftop breakfast room, and a waterside area for dinner. Lots of fresh fish, gorgeous fruit and rose petal jam.

Sorry, didn't answer your question! We took a small amount of cash, everywhere took card payments.

No euros, if you are going to be taking cash then use/take pounds or lira.

GBP is best, then change some into lira as and when you need it. Changing money at a jewellers rather than a bank will probably give you the best exchange rate.

In restaurants and supermarkets you will need lira. In the markets or for boat trips you can usually pay with lira or pounds.

Most places prefer cash rather than card. Paying by cash should get you a better deal if there is any negotiation to be done.

Forgot to add - don't bother with euros.
Notes will need to be English pounds rather than Scottish notes.

The reason many places prefer pounds is that they can keep hold of them and then exchange into lira when the exchange rates are better (usually in the winter).

We recently spent Easter in Fethiye. Stayed at Liberty Fabay. We took Turkish Lira and GBP. Lira mainly for tipping and spent GBP for hotel hairdressers/treatments and shopping. Will be returning in August and take more money for excursions.
