Kefalonia by train - 2025

Planning to take my two 13 year olds to Kefalonia by train and ferry from London via Bari in summer 2025.

We will stop on the way - not sure where yet but somewhere in Europe!

Any help with Kefalonia itself is welcome as I've not visited before.

Accommodation - any recommendations? Happy to self cater or B&B or half board

Kefalonia is quiet and unspoiled — the party crowds are over on the next island (Zakinthos/Zante).

You can get the ferry over from Argostoli (the capital) to Lixouri which is even less spoiled. You can sometimes encounter baby turtles being born on the beaches.

In the same town is a major tourist attraction, Melissani Cave Lake, but if the queues are too much, the free Zervati Cave is cute too.

Do you have any suggestions for accommodation?

Sorry, can't recommend accommodation... we had a house on the beach, booked through friends of friends (don't ask me how, we just left cash on the table for the rent).
