Hi we are traveling here in May half term. Does any one know which restaurants will be open last week of May/first week June? Also for the all inclusive option does this include cocktails. Lastly I keep reading conflicting information about whether 2 free al a carte meals are included for one week or over 2 weeks? Thanks! Any other tips welcomed!

Please report back as we're going in October!

I was just looking at the Grecotels in Crete for October. How did you choose one as there are a few? I'm totally unfamiliar with Crete so not sure what I'm looking at really.

I spotted the Amirandes on the Mr & Mrs Smith website under their "Family Favourites" section - that's never failed me in the past. Trip Advisor reviews also pretty promising.

Hi we have just returned after a week away over half term. We didn’t do a huge comparison of grecotels but we knew that we wanted to go to Crete and this hotel really struck us. It is an extremely beautiful hotel. It’s simply beautifully designed both the pool area, hotel and surrounding areas of the restaurant. It’s not a traditional family hotel ie no slides etc but the children still had fun in the pools, loved the kids club and the sumptuous meals in the buffet as well as regular disco and short film nights. We went for the all inclusive comfort package and found the food quality to be very high. We all got what we needed (us rest and relaxation in a classy location) plus some lovely family days on the beach building sand castles. The staff are super friendly. Would recommend! We didn’t really explore elsewhere other than a visit to Knossos palace and a great nearby aquarium. I believe there is a water park near too but we didn’t try it.

@Janeyraemer - thanks for coming back and updating us. I’m thinking of booking this resort for exactly this time next year as a last term-time holiday before DC starts school. Did you find it quite busy in terms of getting a sunlounger and queues at the breakfast buffet etc. we’ve just come back from a 5 star all inc resort in Turkey but it just didn’t feel like a proper 5 star, we couldn’t get any sunbeds after 9am and the buffet was just heaving. Also there was a lot of loud music playing by the pool all day. Not relaxing at all! So I’m keen to book something that it a bit more chilled while also being child friendly for a 4 year old.

Hi there. There were normally no problems getting sunloungers. There are plenty by the pool, in the grassy areas and also various parts of the beach. We would normally pop our towels down at the pool after breakfast between 9-10. Also, as there are quite high proportion of rooms with private pools there is less of a rush mentality to grab sun loungers first thing as some people choose to stay at their own room.

There was some music at the pool on the last few days but more chilled than thumping music. It wasn’t over bearing. The loudest part of the day is a morning session of aqua aerobics - I only joined in on the last day but it was actually really good fun and most people seemed to take part!!

Breakfast also had a relaxed vibe. Even if busy the restaurant never felt chaotic and the staff were really friendly.

I would describe the hotel very sophisticated in style but very relaxed. We don’t really like stuffy formal hotels nor crazy busy hotels which is why I think we had such a lovely time - would love to go back.

@Janeyraemer - thanks for the super quick reply. It sounds pretty perfect to me and exactly what I’ve been looking for as DH and I are the same! We hate crazy busy and want some luxury but without anything super formal esp with kids. I think I’m going to book! Thanks z

Sounds like the one!

We're just back. Lovely hotel food good. Staff lovely. Seems like there's enough loungers but ours were reserved.

So coincidental, we’re just looking to book our first foreign AI holiday and this hotel kept popping up!
