P&O cruise - upgrade or not from cabin allocation

Hello - I am lucky enough to be going on a cruise this spring. I booked a cabin (didn’t read the small print…) and discovered I’ve been allocated a cabin in the promenade deck - ie people walking past day and night, not the experience I wanted.

First time cruiser - what is my best option? Any inside knowledge? Make an offer to upgrade? I’m worried I might get a worse cabin, eg under a nightclub. Any advice much appreciated - and yep, I should’ve read and understood the small print 😔

Hi I’m going on P&O Iona in August. I’m on several Facebook groups and there is a lot of divided opinion on the Promeade deck but some people do love it and actually book a cabin there on a Select fare. People say no one can see in unless they are 7ft tall and it’s up to you whether you want to hang over your balcony to chat to people as they walk past. The main complaints seem to be if it is right by a whirlpool. People like it as it’s the same floor as many of the bars and restaurants and the theatre and easy for getting on and off the ship. Have you watched any YouTube videos?

Thank you! I guess I feel like people will (and of course they’re allowed to) potentially hang around looking out to sea in front of my balcony, and I think I’d be annoyed by that being obscured, plus I really wanted some peace and quiet. I’m such an idiot for not clocking it in the first place. Glad to hear there are some benefits. Yes, I watched a video of a woman who walks past them all by number, you can see straight in sadly.

I was just looking at a P&O cruise for August, first time. I got really confused because it said that for my package I could choose a cabin and there seemed to be free options available but when I tried to allocate one it wouldn't let me unless I paid the upgrade cost. In the end I chose the 'find me the best cabin' option. I also want peace and quiet on my own balcony.
