Amsterdam with 3 Kids

Hi there,

Wondering if anyone has any tips on where to stay in Amsterdam with 3 kids? It's quite pricey to find hotels for 5 of us as it usually means 2 rooms.

Is it worth it to stay in one of the cheaper airport hotels and travel in each day (going for 3 days)?

Or is there a particular area you would recommend to look at for Airbnb with easy transport options in to the centre?

I'm going a bit square- eyed searching! Thank you for any tips!

I don't have any helpful suggestions but had the same question! We want to take our DCs. Years ago I met a family friend from Rotterdam and he said to visit anywhere but Amsterdam with children. As you can see it really put me off 😁

So if you don't mind I'm going to lurk on this thread. Have you taken them to any other European city? I'm dying to do this. I don't like sitting by the pool holidays.

No, this will be our first city break! Why not Amsterdam?

Definitely think about Berlin though. Its fab. I want to take them there next!

We went to Amsterdam last autumn (with 2 children) and stayed at Bob W Noord. I my was good accommodation and easily fitted the 4 of us (2 double beds). They may have something suitable for 5? It was a no reception hotel but they responded very quickly to what’s app and it was very easy. There is a bus stop nearby that had buses to the centre, and we were told by one driver that children were free. We did also get to the hotel via free ferry across the river then a walk - it was a bit far with bags though (about 15 mins).
we would stay again. It was a bit far out but easy enough travel, and if you are only going back there to sleep the distance wasn’t an issue (about 20 mins by bus).

we did also look at staying on the Botel as that seemed reasonable value (for Amsterdam!) - the location would maybe have been a bit more convenient than Bob W, as you can get to it by free ferry then a very short walk.

we took the night train from Amsterdam to Berlin - I agree with BebeBelge, that was a great city to visit too.

I would definitely recommend the Resistance museum in Amsterdam by the way - the kids section in particular was perhaps the best museum we have been too, interesting and moving.
