Carry on essentials

Just as the title says really, I have a long journey planned, the flights aren’t horrifically long (9 hours plus 2 hours then a ferry) but with transfer waiting times etc will be a long day. What are your carry on essentials to make the journey easier please? I’ll be taking iPad/kindle, wipes, toothbrush/paste but what else would be handy to have?

thanks

Anything that you’d be screwed without and couldn’t easily replace on arrival, in case of lost luggage. So all medication, cosmetics, change of clothes and if it’s a beach holiday then your swimsuit. In terms of stuff to keep you entertained on the flight I think you mostly have that covered. I’d add a nice eye mask because the plane ones aren’t great, a neck pillow for napping if you’re going economy. Noise cancelling headphones. Some snacks in case the plane food is bleugh on the long one, or just because there likely won’t be food on the short one. Also an empty water bottle to take through security then refill so you can stay hydrated without having to ask crew for those tiny cups all the time.

Phone, iPad, your own earphones, a shawl, a head pillow, lip balm, comfy socks, cash, passport. That's about it, really.

At least one book.

Ear plugs, sleep mask, sweets to suck during take off and landing, ibuprofen

Change of T-shirt and underwear. Incase something gets spilt or luggage lost. At least you have a spare set to change into on arrival, before buying some replacements next morning.

Food. Often plane food is dire, or at weird times when you might be sleeping. I try and eat at airports beforehand, and take some basics with me.

Reusable water bottle. Fill after security.

Some snacks like cereal bars
good Powerbank and cable, we found sockets at airports uttlery useless recently
all your paperwork, medication, jewellery and all electronics
T-shirt or top especially if you flew overnight and had to sleep in your clothes
Moisturising cream and small deodrant

Everything mentioned plus gum for taking off and landing, hand sanitizer and eye drops.

Stuff that you can't be without if they lost your luggage. For me, that's medication and contact lens and glasses. Flights can be very cold so spare jumpers. I also pack electronics that I don't want to checkin, iPads and kindles. Shoes I can slip on to go to the toilets, but I wear my crocs when boarding the plane. I've seen others packing their sandals.

I don't bother with toothbrush and toothpaste. I can't wait to leave the airport as soon as possible.
