City break

Hi, any recommendations please for a family holiday, thinking probably a city break, with 2 DC - 18 and 15. Last holiday (probably) with DD who is heading to uni in Sept. Considering Rome or a twin break.

We loved Barcelona as a city break with teen DD. So much to see and do, there really is something to please everyone

There’s no reason though that at 18 this should be her last holiday with you. DD and her friends are all 19/20 and still very happily going away with family, I can’t imagine it any other way.

Agree with Barcelona. Also Amsterdam and Reykjavik maybe?

We visited krakow recently and had a 17 , 16 and 10 year old with us. It was probably one of the best city breaks we have ever done. Something for everyone. I would highly recommend

What time of year? Rome is scorcio in the summer and the locals all escape. No way you want to do sightseeing at 45 degrees. My cousin lives in Rome and in August they have the blinds closed all day as it’s so hot. Locals all go to the beach or mountains.

How about Vienna and Salzburg? Or Berlin?

Done loads of these with teens. Reykjavik and Seville are favourites.

In recent years with DD (so from the age of 15 to now) we've done:

Madrid and Toledo together
Madrid and Salamanca together
Lisbon
Brussels
Rome
Florence-Pisa-Siena
Innsbruck

All last two weeks of August as that's when we're free.

This year we’re off to New York with dcs 18 & 13.

What time of year? Rome is not a good city to visit in August - it's like an oven that's full of wandering tour groups. Most Italians head to the beach for the entire month so many businesses are closed and shuttered.

If you're going in the summer Lisbon, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Amsterdam, Bilbao. Definitely avoid Paris this summer, due to the Olympics.

Thanks everyone.
@IggyAce we did NYC last year - amazing!
It would be late July so maybe Rome not the best idea. Barcelona maybe?
