Cheapest way for single person to go on a warm holiday?

Hello - I'm a soon-to-be single 50-something who also soon won't be tied to term-time holidays. Imminent divorce also means money will be pretty tight in future. But I'd still like to hope that I could very occasionally get away for a week in the sun! I'm wondering if anyone has any hints and tips for the cheapest way for a solo person to take a wee holiday, somewhere quiet with a pool? I'm thinking booking my own flights and accom, and avoiding school holidays are the most obvious starting points - but maybe a package holiday is actually cheaper? Thanks.

The answer probably is that it depends.

Sometimes a package is cheaper, sometimes not. Advantage of a package is that the transfer is sorted so you don't have to worry about finding your accommodation although depending on where you go it could be cheap and easy to get on a normal bus.

Plus also how flexible you are about where you go, how far in advance you book, and little tweaks like flying midweek vs at the weekend.

Have a look on comparison sites like Skyscanner or Kayak. Work out what destinations you can get to from your local airport that you like the look of, and narrow it down from there.

I read an article recently about how one woman literally just leaves the easyJet / skyscanner destination blank - puts her dates in (with a few days flexibility) and sees what destinations come up. All v last minute. But claims she saves a lot of money that way. Then books accommodation straight after

@lemonsaretheonlyfruit my mate does that on loveholidays she just leaves it blank, adds dates and lists from the cheapest up then picks one that takes her fancy 😂she does it 5/6 times a year!

Thanks for the replies - I've been looking at trying that, putting down any destination, and just seeing what comes up - it's fascinating! I might well end up going down that route. Cheers.
