Looking for this summer, 2 adults and kids 11 and 13. They love the beach, swimming, snorkelling but not water rides/water parks.

We all like history and sight-seeing and enjoy a mix of beach days and exploring days. Somewhere with a reasonable nightlife/restaurants would be brill, not too remote.

From England, I was thinking about flying to Athens or Rhodes and then doing a ferry or internal flight to a second destination, and flying home from there? So many islands look beautiful, I don't know where to start.

Can do up to 10 days.

I've just seen that ferries between islands might be an option - anyone done this with suitcases etc? Is this an alternative to flights? I'd love to hear of any places your teens/tweens have enjoyed as well. thanks :)

I’d go for one of the more family oriented islands like Sifnos and Naxos and ferry between them. Or fly into Thessaloniki and ferry to Allonissos and Skopelos. They’ve got great restaurants and lots to do but less of the party island vibe.

If you are all into history, it's got to be Crete.

I went to Aegina and then Athens almost 50 years ago and when we stayed on Aegina I remember getting a ferry to a really mini island for the day.
I can still taste the chicken and rice or stuffed peppers I ate in for dinner in the evenings and swimming all day in the sea with my rubber ring on.
I was only 7 but that was my start of my love of travel.
