Passport problems

Myself and DH sent our old passports off for renewal after applying on line.
Mine has been processed and received new passport and old passport back today all good with text to let me know each step.

Dh's however we have heard nothing. We sent it signed for and the tracking hasn't changed at all so it is still showing as being with royal mail/post office. Has anyone else had this happen and all turn out OK?

The really annoying thing is he and my son are travelling in July and he had just enough time (as in days) left on his passport to cover this but he wanted to err on the side of caution and renew big mistake there!!! Anyone have any tips?

possibly call the PO and ask?

SugarPlumpFairy3 · 11/04/2024 14:38

I applied for my 3dc passport a few weeks ago. 2 were processed really quickly and arrived but the third was several days behind. The tracking was just stuck on ‘documents’ received. It did arrive a week or so after.

Going to go into the royal mail office place tomorrow morning I think, They're only open for 2 hrs a day here.

In my experience you send 2 off together and they come back days/weeks apart but the tracker is not helpful in this case as it tends to be changed straight from arrived to processed quickly once they open it. Assuming it's been under 4 weeks I'd hold on for now

If he’s not travelling until July then there should be enough time. In my experience it doesn’t update to show as “received/delivered” until they start to work on it.

Dinosaurdrip · 11/04/2024 14:42

Thanks Sugarplump, it's so frustrating!! They haven't even received his by the looks of things, so silly when they both were sent at exactly the same time.

I sent off my 2 kids’s passports in March and I have one already back (though not the supporting documents) and the other one total silence. I am trying to hold my nerve.

PuttingDownRoots · 11/04/2024 14:43

Did they go to the same passport office?
Did you use the unique code on each envelope?

Went to the same office but different address I think, if that makes sense. I'm pretty sure he will have put the code in the envelopes, he's quite meticulous about things like that.

It's so stressful, if it had been mine it wouldn't have been an issue as I'm not going with them but obviously life can't be that straight forward. 😆 hope your other child's turns up soon. 🤞

It's odd how big the difference in time for them to come back is.

My DD did not pay for fast track and got her new passport back in 7 days

It really is strange, mine was just a normal renewal as well (no fast track). Sent last Tuesday received new passport and my old passport and marriage cert back today but then I've heard of other waiting weeks.

Did you just send last week? Def don’t worry yet mine too about a week to be “received” then just another week to be processed.

read a lot of stories about two going off together and them taking wildly different timescales.

Caravaggiouch · 11/04/2024 16:45

You only sent them last Tuesday and he doesn’t go away until July? I don’t see where the passport problem stated it in the title actually is…

Yes only last week, I think I was just concerned that his hasn't even arrived at the passport office if you go by the tracking, although the lady in the post office said they don't sign for all of them, kind of begs the question why we paid to have it signed for. 🤔

I applied for my passport online this past Good Friday and received it the following Saturday! I did not use the fast track service.
Passport office did advise that I would receive my old passport up to two weeks later, but I received them both on the same day (separate envelopes).
They kept me up to date along the way too.
I would chase up the PO.

Oblomov24 · 11/04/2024 17:13

Search the tracking number again.
That prompts something, the fact you've looked.

Phone passport office, ask then to confirm receipt, and what they turnaround /expected completion date is. The fact you phone means it's logged to the case, this often prompts action.

Brilliant, I will try this thank you.

I sent my twins off together, they are under 18 so renewal of children's passports.
One needed an updated photo but OK after that.
One needed my birth certificate, marriage certificate and a letter explaining my maiden name on my passport.
So anything can happen.

Oblomov24 · 11/04/2024 18:20

Phone Royal Mail tracking service, the passport office have signed for it, by now, so it should be recorded as such.

Geebray · 11/04/2024 18:22

He's right though. Most countries would not let you in with just days to go on your passport. Some won't even do months.

Sgtmajormummy · 11/04/2024 18:30

You should have a Passport application number.
Phone the call centre with that and speak to a real person. Mine was in Durham and the call centre person was really helpful. Straight onto the case.
I agree, your documents are probably still being reviewed. Once they are it will be very fast.
If you sent via the PO it means your documents have already been pre-approved.
