Probably not the right section, but I wondered what people thought about living somewhere they don’t live atm!

Where I live now. On a cliff in Swansea, Wales. I've lived a fair few different places but this is the best and we won't be moving again.

Crikeyalmighty · 10/04/2024 12:49

@Parker231 my H really loves Quebec- I've not been- we might go for new year this year

@TheBirdintheCave I must admit it did feel quite like that when we lived in Copenhagen too - did you watch the Sue Perkins 2 parter in Japan this weekend- very enjoyable!

I love where I live! Portobello in Edinburgh. The prom, beach, lots of lovely independent businesses on the high street, a short bus ride away (or a longer walk) into the city centre which has everything you could want and more. I find Edinburgh so beautiful, I could never live anywhere else now. I feel lucky every day. And I hate hot weather so I’m grand on that front.

The Swiss Alps. Somewhere near a lake. Glorious summers for swimming and hiking, beautiful winter landscapes, snow sports and daily sunshine above the cloud level. Gorgeous and affordable fresh, local, food, friendly child-orientated communities, bags of history and culture. And did I mention the scenery. Oh and no need for a car thanks to world class public transport.

Agreed! I lived in Zurich (so not the mountains but it’s all quite close). Loved it. Not sure I’d call it affordable, well no more than London or similar. I’d live there again for sure. Swiss German too difficult for me though. Still embarrassingly they all seem to speak at least 3 languages!

A gorgeous city. Rains a lot but so does everywhere these days ☔️

I live in Switzerland, the French speaking part, and it’s fabulous.

But I miss the sea. Since I speak Italian I’d have to say on the Ligurian coast. I think Sestri Levante or even Genova.

That’s a nice feeling to know you’ll not move again. I’d like that!!

I never want to leave London. I just want more money to live more comfortably! Johnson was right.

Crikeyalmighty · 10/04/2024 13:01

@Lion400 yep- we always have a couple of days staying in Palma when we go to Mallorca (which we do a fair bit) lovely upmarket indoor food market too- and if it's a shitty day (rare but has happened ) we nip to Porto pi on the edge which is a big indoor shopping centre . There is a reason the Germans and scandis flock there.

seeitthroughmyeyes · 10/04/2024 13:01

Texas, Houston, Somewhere in Italy or Mallorca.

Movinghouseatlast · 10/04/2024 13:01

In the UK where I am in Cornwall but I would want a sea view which I can't afford. I do live 5 minutes walk to the beach though. It's been raining for 6 months here so I would like to abroad really.

I'd live in Paxos in Greece, or North East Corfu. Amalfi Coast is a bit too busy, but somewhere coastal in Italy.

If we still had to work- Vancouver. One of the most liveable cities I’ve ever visited and one of the only places me and DH have both gone “we could live here”.

If we were no longer working, a much smaller town in BC- maybe on the island or somewhere we could easily access both Vancouver and the mountains.

Son is in Vancouver and absolutely loving it.Skiing in Whisler at weekends. Visiting in July…so excited 😛

"Why, Sir, you find no man, at all intellectual, who is willing to leave London. No, Sir, when a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford."
— Samuel Johnson

😀I am speaking only for myself. I am not someone who likes peace and quiet year round. I like busy cities and lots of stuff to do.

Gettingcolder · 10/04/2024 13:16

Monaco. Not many places in the world where you can ski in the morning and spend the afternoon on the beach but it is possible from Monaco.

Gower would be on my list, love it there!

abroad would be Costa Rica for the nature, lifestyle and people although it rains a little too much so would have to do part of the year somewhere dryer.

Crikeyalmighty · 10/04/2024 13:35

@TheBirdintheCave not sure if it was new or a repeat!

FatArse123 · 10/04/2024 13:48

New York (mostly so I could show off about it) and Norway in the summer. If I had to choose one, Norway all year round. Its so beautiful and civilised, from what I can see.
