Where would you live if you could live anywhere?

Probably not the right section, but I wondered what people thought about living somewhere they don’t live atm!

London. Wouldn’t want to live abroad. Would love holidays in lots of the places mentioned!

If HAD to live abroad and could magically speak the language would choose another lovely big city in Europe like Paris or Berlin. With temperate weather.

Outer Hebrides

WannabeHealthier · 10/04/2024 07:28

Cambridge (in England not US!) absolutely beautiful city with so much history & buzzing with activity … with a holiday home in Italy - don’t really mind where as I love the whole of Italy!

I used to live in Oxford funnily enough and didn’t really like it, doesn’t have much of a heart… but Cambridge is far superior in my opinion! Seems I’m not alone in my view as Cambridge is the fastest growing city in the UK and government hoping it will be the Silicon Valley of Europe

hattie43 · 10/04/2024 07:29

If we could just have proper seasons and more warmth I'd stay where I am . The weather would be the main reason to leave the UK. I'd go to Malaga I think

San Diego

Fowey or Whitstable. Such lovely seaside towns. Whitstable is do-able.

RosesAndHellebores · 10/04/2024 07:35

Exactly where I am.

If we still had to work- Vancouver. One of the most liveable cities I’ve ever visited and one of the only places me and DH have both gone “we could live here”.

If we were no longer working, a much smaller town in BC- maybe on the island or somewhere we could easily access both Vancouver and the mountains.

I am thinking about retirement, so wherever I move to I will not have the inconvenience of having to earn a living.

A comfortable apartment in Central London, somewhere which is not overly gentrified (boring) but a bit grittier, like Shoreditch. Close to a tube station so I can get round easily.

I am not very imaginative, I am afraid. But London is unbeatable as I speak the language, multicultural, masses of culture including free museums, endless choice of food, easy to get around. Londoners leave you alone generally but step up when they need to without fuss. ❤

I love travelling to other countries on holiday, but living there is a different kettle of fish. I would get bored easily.

Necker Island in the Caribbean, without the resident twat of course! The Virgin Islands are just so so beautiful 😍.

pharmachameleon · 10/04/2024 08:25

I would live in London, maybe Marylebone as it still feels like a village and it's so close to the buzz of London. I love going on holiday to places like Palma but no way could I live there. I'd miss the shopping, culture, theatre and buzz of London. I'd be bored after about 3 days in a small European city.

StellaOlivetti · 10/04/2024 08:30

SW France.

I would have a flat in London (not sure where, but central or near Hampstead Heath) plus another place in a sunny country - Italy, Greece or Spain. I haven't decided yet! (Have a few years working and with kids at home to make this decision). Hopefully doable to me as I have a large house in London that will allow me to downsize into two properties as long as I don't stop work early or get ill/disabled etc. (and as long as I have enough to live on pension wise).

The downside is that I do have to work for years to get to this position.....

As far as the sunny places are concerned - I do love Seville. I love Corfu too. But I think that I haven't yet found My Place and will know as soon as I do. (Must go back to Palma and re-consider that - I've only been when my kids were really young, so didn't get a feel for it).

Japan is the only other place on the planet I could live. The general mindset of thinking about the comfort of others, following rules and behaving to benefit society as a whole rather than being selfish is how I live my life as well.

We moved last year from Central London to Quebec and we’re loving it. Now in our dream location.

Shetlands · 10/04/2024 12:02

I'd live in several places: a flat in central London for flying visits to theatres, exhibitions etc, wintering in my villa with a sea view on the Amalfi coast and the rest of the year in a Georgian rectory in the Cotswolds. I'd also buy up land and plant native species woodlands to offset my carbon footprint.

New Zealand. We actually move back there in 3 days. Beautiful country. I can't wait.

I currently live in Australia and wouldn't recommend it.

I wouldn't mind Greece, though, either.

I like Aus, tho I prefer NZ SI to Aus too. Not sure I could live there though, too far away from family and not as easy to get to other places, travelling, holidays. Stunning though. Good luck with your move back, lucky!

How are you finding the Frenchness (although the French deny its Frenchness)..

Richmond. I don’t want to leave my career. So somewhere closer to London but still commuting distance. Also I don’t want to downsize so unless I won a lottery it’s not going to happen.

It’s lovely there but the pavements are so narrow. It feels crowded. Gorgeous Green and handy tube / train tho.

Central London, in a house with a huge garden

London, in the exact area I live now but upgraded to a house from my flat. Actually I love 💕 my flat.

Love Seville but it's far too hot in summer.

Where are you in London?

The Swiss Alps. Somewhere near a lake. Glorious summers for swimming and hiking, beautiful winter landscapes, snow sports and daily sunshine above the cloud level. Gorgeous and affordable fresh, local, food, friendly child-orientated communities, bags of history and culture. And did I mention the scenery. Oh and no need for a car thanks to world class public transport.
