Adult DS got a 3 month holiday visa to explore some of the East coast of Australia. He'll be staying in backpacker hostels etc, maybe get around by Greyhound coach . What kind of ballpark weekly budget does he need, excluding flights. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Probably about 60-80 gbp a day roughly for food and activities and public transportation costs to get about (would look at scuba diving costs as well and add this in if he wants to do this). Hostels are 15-20 gbp a night. Greyhound costs vary depending how far he will be travelling. If he wants to go up to cairns I'd recommend comparing flying, looking at bus passes (kind of like interrail) or hiring a car and driving one way as he can stop lots of places on way up and is best way I explore Queensland. Train is also an option but pricey. Invest in a good hiking rucksack and shoes.

Have a look at the cost of going out to the Whitsunday Islands and to Fraser Island - those trips are both really popular. Is he going to want to do any one off expensive things like sky diving? Will he cook for himself in the hostels or how much will he spend on eating out and alcohol. It is really variable
