Looking to take DD aged 11 away in the summer to Croatia, just the two of us. Is there anywhere in particular you would recommend? Location, accommodation?

The island of Brač is lovely. Zlatny Rat beach and some lovely places to explore like the town of Bol. Island of Hvar also beautiful. Be aware though that Croatian beaches are shingle, not sand, so you would need beach shoes.

What's your budget?

Rovinj, Hotel Lone. We went last year and I LOVED it. Gorgeous hotel with a short walk to a lovely old town. 40 mins from Pula Airport

Will you get a car?
We went 10 years ago to Villas Plat in Plat, between Dubrovnik and Cavtat, not too far from the airport.
It was great for snorkeling in the local (fairly rocky- need sand shoes) beaches and there was a nice pool. We went end of September and it was very quiet but there were a couple of nice local restaurants.
We visited dubrovnik, cavtat, Ston/Mali ston, into Montenegro and to Kotor in the car, visited Lokrum island (again great snorkelling!)
There was also a bus or water taxi along the Croatian coast from our hotel (also stopped at towns and other hotels)
This is the only part of Croatia I know but we had a great time.

Just be sighted that it is horrendously expensive

We went to Pula a few years ago. The Arena Stoja campsite which has statics and posh tents with loos and showers in them for hire. Just a short taxi or bus ride from the airport.

Surrounded by sea, bus from the entrance in to Pula, easy bus along the coast to visit elsewhere. Short walk to supermarket. Walk out of tent and jump off rocks in to water. Loads of fish everywhere, you need a mask and snorkel!

It was a fabulous, relaxed week of swimming and snorkeling interspersed with exploring the Roman Arena, underground tunnels and a trip out to Brijini. All using public transport.
