We are planning to visit Perth next year to see family. We have been a few times over the years and we’ve done the following stopovers:-

Dubai
Singapore
Kuala Lumpur
Langkawi
Hong Kong
Bangkok

Considering Tokyo but I wonder what other places might be worth looking at? Definitely more city based than beach based. Might do Singapore again as DS hasn’t been.

When I stay stopovers, it’s for 5/6 nights. We are doing Perth for 10 nights, possibly Darwin for 4/5 nights and then a stopover on the way or on the way back.

You don't mention time of year for your trip, if you are considering Tokyo you should also consider Seoul. I'd pick Tokyo of those two places but Seoul was interesting. Asia is usually the easiest route to Australia, and you've been to most of the traditional stopover destinations. We have been to the Maldives as a stopover on the way back from Oz twice, but that requires more planning, and using multiple airlines for the flights, and obviously it's clearly not a city break. Would you consider stopping in Bangkok but then heading to Siem Reap in Cambodia to see the temples at Angkor. Still probably my favourite place on the planet. Otherwise thinking outside the box, flying into Perth you could route flights through say Johannesburg or Mauritius. Johannesburg itself is not so exciting, but Kruger is fairly close. I've not been to Mauritius (yet), but there are Mauritius - Perth direct flights maybe 3 times a week, and also regular UK - Mauritius flights.

Morning and thank you for responding. Some ideas there. Time of year, we aren’t sure yet. Probably March/April but may be October/November. It will come down to price when I start to look at flights.
