Holiday Cottage Issues -

We rented a caravan this week for 4 nights costing us just over £700. We arrived and a repair company have left a card saying not to use the dishwasher as parts need to be fitted (dated 2 weeks ago). OK fine so I wash the dishes to find there are bowls under the sink to catch leaks. So I'm having to slopp out after we eat a meal and wash up. The rental company are fobbing us off and now ignoring me. I didn't plan on spending 4 days holiday slopping out bowls of water. They knew there were repairs required but rented it out any way. Do you think it is appropriate to ask for some rental money back? My husband has fixed a cupboard door that fell off this morning and we've cleaned out the fridge that is missing the drainage spool and stinks of mould. Rental company currently ignoring us.

Absolutely - I'd be asking for at least 50%. That sounds awful.

Yes, I would have expected it even for just the dishwasher. I don’t go in holiday to wash dishes.

Hoplolly · 03/04/2024 19:17

Yeah, I'm pretty chill but I'd be asking for something back.

Thank you. When we arrived there were 2 bowls under the sink to catch leaks. Both filled with stagnant water and a dated repair notice in the dish washer. I've now had to put a 3rd bowl under the sink. They knew there were issues 2 weeks ago but still let it out. I'll be contacting them again tomorrow.

Take photos of everything and specifically ask to be moved to alternate accommodation. Threaten small claims?

I run a holiday let. Totally unacceptable and I would be offering a partial refund or a free meal out somewhere and a massive apology.

I'd have also flagged it up beforehand to allow them to cancel if they wanted.

Thanks for the responses. Their excuse is that there was confusion around the repair which they thought had been completed. They said they were sending a maintenance officer around but he didn't turn up. They now can't get hold of a repair man and are ignoring us. They clearly hadn't thoroughly checked the caravan before we arrived. I have photos etc.
