Diving in October half term

We are looking to go diving in October half term so my 16 year old can finish their PADI open water dives. Ideally no more than 4-5 hour flight away. We were recommended Malta but am reading mixed reports of the country. Don’t want it to just be about diving, would quite like a nice beach/restaurant and a bit of culture too. We’ve been to Jordan , Egypt and Oman at a similar time of year. Any recommendations? Countries and hotels or accommodations. Thanks

What is it that's putting you off Malta?

Gozo would be amazing for diving and good for a novice. Blue Lagoon, inland sea, day trip to Comino to do the shallow wreck and Santa Maria caves.

Loads of dive shops that do courses in Marsalforn, which also has some amazing pizza restaurants. Th main town on the island is nice enough to walk around and there's also some ancient ruins.

There's lots of dive outfits on Tenerife

cane on to say Malta. My ds and dd did open water and advanced both out there on 3 different occasions with their dad. They loved it.

Ok cool thanks everyone. Gozo is a good shout, I’ll go and have a look now! Just read a few things saying Malta is a bit marmite. But maybe that’s above the water in certain areas. The diving sounds incredible

We go to Gozo every year to dive. It's a fabulous place - great diving, amazing food and wine, lovely people.

We often dive with Atlantis dive in Marsalforn, who I would highly recommend.

Baron holiday homes do all sorts of accommodation across the island and are very reputable.

Malta first car hire is the cheapest you'll find - get car from the airport and it's about 40 mins to the ferry (20 mins) to Gozo, then nowhere is more than 20 mins away.

The beauty of Gozo is that pretty much whatever the weather, there will be somewhere decent to dive, as the island is so small.

Thanks everyone. I’m off to book Malta now. Hopefully it’ll still be warm late October
