Hi hive mind,

I'm looking to take dd on a week's trip to the big apple this summer. Would really like a hotel with great views, close to at least one fabulous tourist attractions eg Times sq, a bridge, central park something great to remember the location.

On a reasonable but not excessive budget, we have an itinerary as long as dd's arm! Any spectacular recommendations please?

Stay in FiDi! You'll get more bang for your buck and be mnear Brooklyn Bridge, Wall Street, South Street Seaport, 9/11 memorial + museum etc. Club Quarters down there is lovely, as is The Conrad if you want to spend a bit more. I've also heard good things about the Doubletree.

Have a look at M Social Times Square (actually W52nd so a couple of blocks away from the madness). It used to be a Novotel and it has some amazing views (especially at night) of Times Square, higher floors are best.

Essex House as mentioned already is lovely but much more expensive.

I'm sure you're aware that you'll have to pay significantly more for a view so you need to decide if it's worth it.

Do the Edge (Hudson Yards) absolutely amazing.

Intercontinental Barclay 48th St I think- corner of Lexington Ave is where we stayed, no real views but minutes walk to Grand Central, could see Chrysler building from the corner, within 5 mins on 5th Ave and Rockerfeller but it cost a lot. Absolutely loved my time there.

Where did you decide OP? We’ve booked the Kimberly hotel in Midtown East. Looks good

The Renaissance Hotel Times Square. Part of the Marriot chain.
Clean, quiet, excellent staff AND a breakfast buffet with items you can pack away for lunch/snacks.

I would avoid the W Hotel Union Square due to its awkward location and the Pennsylvania Hotel which was beyond decrepit filthy and the stuff of nightmares

I like The Wallace in Upper West Side. Tucked behind the National History Museum. It's a lot quieter than Times Square, feels safe and a lovely bolt hole after a day in the city. Good size rooms too.
