Sharm el Sheikh - what's it like?

Looking at getting a week of winter sun in November. Saw some nice looking 5* all inclusives for £900 for a week (hotel only).

Is it a nice place to go fly and flop?

Yes.

Very little else to do though.

Good diving and snorkeling.

Warning that some pools may be unheated - we went in Feb and you could swim but was chilly!

A bit of a dump generally -
all depends on your hotel so choose wisely.

Snorkelling just off the beach was absolutely fantastic. Our hotel was lovely (was years ago so won’t be relevant! ) except that I ended up with the usual bad tummy which was absolutely hellish on the plane on the way home. Wouldn’t go back.

I wouldn’t rush back. It was cheap and cheerful-ish. The main strip was Shisha bar type places with Eastern European women doing ‘belly dancing’. It was also pretty chilly in the evening. I went on a nice day trip to Mt Sinai though.

It's OK if you don't mind getting the shits and being groped by aggressive men 😬

Been twice, first time very lovely hotel, had its own shopping area, really 5 star. Second time not so much. Snorkelling was amazing. Sharm itself was a dump. There’s another big shopping centre which is much cleaner, luxurious and safer. Lots of bars and things to do there.

The best area of Sharm is Naama Bay, it’s a fascinating place in the evenings, the other parts of Sharm are ok but lack character (big, all inclusive hotels that could be anywhere).
