June weather in Sri Lanka

Wanting to go to Sri Lanka for a week in mid June. We are based in the Middle East so a relatively short flight for us. June is the only time we can realistically go as we have other commitments. Heard the weather can be hit and Miss. I'm not after massive sun as we get that at home. Just the ability to chill on a beach, amazing food and visit a few sites.
If there are any recommendations then they would be massively appreciated!

The southern coastline can get pretty gnarly that time of year - rough surf, short beaches, lots of rain. But the east side is where it's at from May-Nov. You'll score way better beach days over there during those months.
That's season for spots like Trincomalee, Pasikudah, Kalkudah and the awesome surf break at Arugam Bay
