US Preclearance - Dublin Airport

I’m traveling with DD to the US on Monday and we are flying from the U.K. with a connection in Dublin. DD and I are both US citizens and we will be checking one bag. Any ideas on what to expect from the US Preclearance we will be required to do in Dublin? We have a 3.5 hour layover - is that enough time? My brother was just telling me a horror story about a friend of his who missed his flight back to the US and had to stay overnight with a 3 hour layover and a connection from Amsterdam 😱. Will we be required to collect our bag and recheck it in Dublin?

US customs in Dublin is usually really quick. 3.5 hours should be plenty.

Plenty of time and your bag is checked through by your airline. Staff there are always very pleasant.

US citizens get through immigration in Dublin airport quickly.
We are American living in Ireland. 2 DC studying in US so we go through a lot. If it took 15 minutes or longer I would consider it a very slow day.

Not what you asked but there is only one small bar/restaurant after US immigration and if lots of flights are going to the US around the same time it gets very busy.
We usually book the 51st and Green lounge which is after US immigration or eat before going through immigration.

Thanks everyone, that’s very reassuring. I had visions of having to find a hotel in Dublin! I’m sure there are some twists to my brother’s friend’s tale he either didn’t tell my brother or my brother didn’t tell me.
