Ideas for August around Athens/Evia with teens

We have a weeks water sports with flights to and from Athens. Looking for something different to do with teenagers to extend the holiday. Will do some culture in Athens but looking for something else too for 3 or 4 days. Thank you

In Athens the obvious things to do are the historic sites and the museums - don't underestimate how hot august will be. There isn't much shade, a lot of queuing and the Parthenon was closed for a lot of the day in late July / august last year for the heat. The Parthenon museum is great and has aircon so I'd recommend that.

If you're up for driving you could visit the Corinth canal, and continue on to Napflia for culture/history. Or from Athens take the fast ferry to Hydra, a unique and beautiful island where no cars are allowed. Not sure how the teens would fare with the slow pace there, but it is lovely.

Thank you. Yes very aware August will be too hot for sightseeing and of the issues last year with closures hence only doing a couple of days as we have no choice other than flying into Athens and have to travel in school holidays. Is there anyway to help us cope? Is it too far out to stay by coast and presumably hotel with pool is prohibitive?

Hydra was suggested to us but I wasnt sure for the teens. We are happy to drive in Greece so could do Napflia - anyway to make that trip cooler/combine with coast/shade? Thank you

Sorry typo, should have said Nafplio. It's on the coast so as cool as you'll get I think. I don't know what the beaches are like.

yes thanks had researched it since your first post and seen Nafplio is by the coast and reviews look good so could be an option.

Any suggestions for Athens in August? Is it too far out to stay by coast and presumably hotel with pool is prohibitive? thanks

There's a lovely neighbourhood south of Athens called Vouliagmeni, which has a lake you can swim in (with cafe) and a good beach. There is a bus route into the city. I imagine hotels there are on the expensive side but if you can stretch to it it would be a nice base.
